Es gibt keine zweite Stufe hinter der ersten und keine Mattendicke, in der etwas bei einem späteren Durchgang aufgefangen werden könnte: Was das Gewebe nicht an seiner Oberfläche stoppt, ist hindurchgegangen. Mehrlagige Gaze arbeitet andersherum und staffelt das Auffangen über mehrere Lagen. Kein Ansatz ist automatisch der bessere, aber die einzelne Ebene erklärt vieles darüber, wie dieser Filter hergestellt wird, wie er misst und welche Reinigung er tatsächlich braucht.

Alles geschieht an der Oberfläche
Ein einlagiges Gewebe muss seine Öffnungsweite gleichmäßig halten, weil nichts dahinter eine undichte Stelle ausgleichen kann, und genau dort steckt der Fertigungsaufwand eines Racing-Gewebes. Das bedeutet auch, dass die Belastung dort bleibt, wo sie erreichbar ist. Staub setzt sich an der Oberfläche ab, statt sich in die Tiefe der Fasern zu arbeiten, sodass ein Luftstrahl das meiste davon entfernt und das Element nahezu in den Zustand zurückkehrt, in dem es das Gehäuse verlassen hat. Ein Filter, der sich in einen definierten Zustand zurückversetzen lässt, ist für einen Besitzer, der den Luftfilterkasten oft öffnet, mehr wert als einer, dessen Zustand sich still verschlechtert.
Der Tausch hinter dem Durchflusswert
Fünfzehntausend Liter pro Quadratmeter und Sekunde ist ein Wert für sauberes Gewebe, erreicht durch das Gewebe selbst, Polyesterfäden ab 22 µm Durchmesser, nicht durch eine weite Öffnung; die 85 im Namen ist keine Porengröße. Wo die Luft eine dauerhaft feine Last mitführt, ist für dasselbe Gehäuse ein 14-Mikron-Vlies mit 1.800 gelistet – die entgegengesetzte Entscheidung, für entgegengesetzte Bedingungen getroffen. Keines ist dem anderen eine Stufe voraus. Und keines macht aus einer Standard-Challenger-Limited ein schnelleres Motorrad: Ein Panel in einem unveränderten Luftfilterkasten hat dafür keinen Mechanismus. Es hält den Ansaugwiderstand niedrig, und dieser Wert lässt sich unbegrenzt wiederherstellen.
Pflege und Reinigung
Druckluft, von der sauberen Seite des PM237S F1-85 nach außen angewendet, ist meistens die gesamte Routine. Wenn eine Saison etwas hinterlassen hat, das Luft nicht löst, schaffen es lauwarmes Wasser und ein mildes Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar abläuft. Getrocknet wird ausschließlich in bewegter Luft bei Raumtemperatur: Heizkörper, Heißluftpistolen und Flammen schädigen die Fasern, bevor eine Veränderung sichtbar wird.
