When this machine entered the catalogue for 2026 it was added to all three elements for its airbox at once — the racing weave, the road weave and the fine non-woven, and with the same three-machine fitment list. That tells you what a fitment list is: a statement that the panel matches the box. It is not a recommendation, and reading it as one is the commonest way to end up with the wrong medium. Sprint Filter says CM267S F1-85 goes in. Whether it should is a separate question.
Key Features
- Dry racing-grade polyester weave, no oil when new and none after washing
- 85-micron aperture rated for 15,000 l/m²/sec — the highest throughput Sprint Filter builds
- Those 85 microns describe the gaps in the weave, wider than the 80 of the road element
- Measured at 95.22 per cent retention on 100-micron particles, beside 93.13 for the road weave
- Seats in the series airbox as it stands: nothing cut or packed out, fuelling untouched
- Washable and reusable, built for the life of the bike, two years of warranty
Three media, one list, no advice
The catalogue offers this housing 85, 80 and 14 microns, and it offers all three to every machine on the list without ranking them. That silence is honest, because the ranking cannot be made from the parts — it has to come from the air and from how the bike is used. Finer holds back more and passes less; coarser reverses both. The percentages help less than they look: 95.22 against 93.13 is measured on 100-micron particles, the coarse end of what a filter meets, and neither number describes the fine airborne fraction where a wider aperture helps least.
Making the choice honestly
The racing weave exists for engines that have had every other restriction taken out of them and for a service regime that cleans the element between sessions. Very little of that describes a road-registered 400 single, which cannot draw anywhere near the air this medium passes, so the headroom sits idle while the wider aperture is wider on every kilometre of traffic and grit. The two alternatives for this box are the standard P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec, and the P14 at 14 microns and 1,800 for dusty routes and high mileage. None of the three adds power to a standard machine; this one earns its place when the Tracker 400 is genuinely raced and the rules leave the intake as the only thing left to choose.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the inner, clean face, blowing outwards, so the load leaves by the side it came in. Anything deeper comes out with warm water and a little mild detergent; rinse thoroughly and leave it somewhere airy. Heat and flame distort the weave permanently, so neither is used to hurry drying, and the element goes back dry and bare. There is no oiling stage, so nothing can be drawn off it into the intake.
