Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Triumph Speed Triple RR (2021–2026) SM221S

A reusable air filter brings a problem the throwaway panel never had. It is the one part of a Speed Triple RR that gets taken out, handled and put back many times over the life of the motorcycle, and handling is its own way of ruining something. Loading gets all the attention because it is the reversible half. The other is mechanical — a parted thread, a frame bent by a hurried refit — and no amount of compressed air undoes it. So there are two things to look at on the Sprint Filter SM221S every time it is out, and they are not the same question: whether it is clean, and whether it is intact.

Clean is not the same as intact

Dirt is judged by an air line and undone by one. Damage is judged by eye and cannot be undone at all. Hold the medium against a light and do not look for grey — a used element is allowed to look used. Look for a thread that has parted, a bright pinhole, a patch where the weave has been dragged away from its neighbours. Then run a finger along the moulded frame and look for a corner that no longer lies flat. Neither of those is wear. Both are injuries, and they come from a screwdriver used as a lever or from an element pressed home at an angle.

The thing you are actually buying

Not power. A drop-in filter does not make a standard 1200 triple noticeably faster, whatever the accessory market implies about airflow. What is being bought is filtration that can be restored — and it is worth nothing once the medium has a hole in it, which is why the inspection above matters more here than on a part destined for the bin anyway. A loaded filter still filters; a torn one is an open path. Support the frame rather than the cloth when it comes out, keep tools away from the weave, and if you find a tear, stop using it.

Care and cleaning

Routine cleaning of the SM221S is compressed air on the clean side, directed outwards through the media. Where air will not shift it, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it fully in moving air only — heat deforms polyester, so no radiator, no heat gun, no flame — and put it back dry, with no oil at any stage. Fitment & Compatibility

Cut for the standard airbox of the Triumph Speed Triple RR, 2021 to 2026. The RR is the faired version of the same platform, so it takes the same element as the Speed Triple RS of those years — two machines in total on this part number. Model years are listed in the Fitment tab.
