Every other service item on the 790 Adventure is counted in kilometres. Oil and its filter, valve clearances, brake fluid, coolant — the manual gives you an interval, you write it in the book, and the number on the odometer tells you when. The air filter is the one item on that list where the odometer is the wrong instrument. A machine that has covered 15,000 km on wet northern tarmac and one that has covered 3,000 km on a dry gravel road have not asked the same thing of their airbox, and no service schedule can tell them apart.

The filter ages by environment, not by distance

This matters because the interval in the book is a compromise written for average use. Ride mostly in dust and the paper element is finished long before the schedule says so; ride mostly on clean roads and you are throwing away a serviceable part because a number came round. Neither is a good outcome. With the P08 PM155S the question changes shape: you open the airbox, you look, and you clean it if it needs cleaning. The element is woven polyester from threads of at least 22 micrometres and is not consumed by being inspected, so checking it costs nothing but the time to lift the seat.

What the LC8c actually gains

Not power — that should be said plainly. The 799 cc parallel twin is not restricted by its standard airbox in any way a rider would feel, and a drop-in element cannot change that. What the P08 offers is a restriction that stays where it started. A paper element's restriction climbs from the day it is fitted; the P08's returns to baseline every time it is cleaned. Over an ownership measured in years and continents rather than months, the difference is not peak output but the absence of a slow, unremarked decline.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame.
