The entire maintenance procedure for this element is a compressed air line. There is no consumable to buy alongside it, nothing to measure out, nothing to spray on afterwards and therefore nothing that can be applied in the wrong quantity. That is worth stating plainly, because the other familiar sort of reusable filter — the oiled cotton kind — arrives with a treatment, a dosage and a fair chance of getting it wrong. CM13S has none of that by design: the P08 weave runs dry from new and is left dry after every wash.
Key Features
- Single-layer polyester weave, dry in service, with no oil applied at any stage of its life
- Rated 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the standard road and track specification of the range
- Measured retention of 93.13 % on 100-micron particles; four-layer oiled cotton reached 76.42 %
- About double the working cloth of a typical performance element, in the original panel shape
- Exchanges directly for the paper element — no cutting, no repositioning, no remapping
- Serviced with compressed air for the life of the machine, two years of guarantee from purchase
Dry, and what that means downstream
Oil on a filter medium is not a fixed part of it. It moves: a little of it travels with the airstream, and what travels arrives on the surfaces behind the airbox, including the sensor a modern engine uses to read the air it is being given. A dry weave has nothing to give up in that way. It also has nothing that needs replacing after a wash, which is why the cleaning routine here ends where it does — air, water if necessary, drying, refit. Nothing is added at the end, and there is no correct amount of anything to remember.
The part of the service you keep doing
Because it is cleaned rather than replaced, this element has a reference condition that can be returned to, and returning to it is the whole of the benefit. A paper panel only ever moves in one direction and is discarded at a state nobody measures; a washed element starts each interval where the last one started. That is real and it is modest, and it should not be confused with the other thing: an element in an unmodified airbox does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, whatever is under the fairing.
Care and cleaning
Blow the CM13S out from the clean side, working outward across the medium so the load leaves along the path it arrived on. If a film survives that, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild washing-up detergent and rinse until nothing further comes out of it. Drying is done by time and moving air alone: no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, since heat is what ends a polyester element. Refit it dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
