Bei Metrik-Gewinden entscheidet die Steigung, nicht nur der Durchmesser. Stopfen verschließen Bohrungen, die nur bei der Fertigung gebraucht werden. Kleinteile aus Edelstahl sitzen dort, wo Korrosion die Demontage erschweren würde. Ihre Dicke ist Teil der Maßkette und nicht beliebig. Verlorene Kleinteile halten eine Reparatur länger auf als der eigentliche Schaden.
