A Naked Bike on a Circuit
MT-10s turn up at track days in numbers that surprise people who think of them as road machines. The R1-derived engine and a chassis with no bodywork to damage make for a cheap and very quick day out, and the conversions tend to be thorough.
What Comes Off With the Lights
The indicator and horn controls, and the positions they held. Once those are gone the remaining buttons can be spaced further apart, which is what allows a thumb working blind to count down the housing without miscounting.
No Racing Harness Required
Yamaha's own connector and the factory ECU. Every rider aid continues to work and nothing upstream has to be replaced, which puts the conversion within reach of an owner working in a home garage.
Built to Be Dropped
A moulded housing splits at the clamp when a bike slides; a body cut from Ergal 7075 scuffs and keeps working. On a naked motorcycle, where the handlebar is among the first things to reach the ground, that difference is felt sooner than on a faired one.
Sealed for the Wash Bay
Sealed elements inside a one-piece body. Track machines are cleaned hot after every outing and stored damp, and ingress is what ends switchgear rather than the number of times a button is pressed.
Black Anodised
A single finish, through the surface rather than applied. On a bike wearing track bodywork it is what most owners would choose in any case.
Standard Loom Retained
No racing harness and no aftermarket dashboard are required. Yamaha's own connector is used and the factory ECU handles the switch, so every rider aid continues to function as delivered.
Crossplane Character
The R1-derived engine keeps its uneven firing order in the MT-10, which is most of the bike's appeal and also the reason everything bolted to the handlebar is worked harder than on a conventional four.
