Was an einer modernen Supersportlerin wie der Tank aussieht, ist meist keiner. Bei der R9 ist die sichtbare Oberseite eine Abdeckung über Airbox und Tank, und CY20425 ersetzt diese Abdeckung samt ihren Seitenteilen — genau die Flächen, mit denen Unterarme und Brust des Fahrers in der Ducklage Kontakt haben.

Grip, nicht nur Gewicht
Fahrer tauschen dieses Teil in der Erwartung einer Gewichtsersparnis und behalten es aus einem anderen Grund. Rohes Carbon hat eine härtere, weniger rutschige Oberfläche als lackierter Kunststoff, und wer sich beim Bremsen aus dem Motorrad hängt, belastet die Tankflanken mit Innenschenkel und Unterarm. Der zusätzliche Halt dort ist klein, gleichbleibend und über eine Renndistanz spürbar, wenn die Arme müde werden und der Tank das ist, was den Oberkörper von den Lenkerenden fernhält. Ein Tankpad darauf macht es noch besser, und genau dort landen die meisten.
Arbeiten darunter
Die Abdeckung muss für alles ab, was Airbox, Filter oder Einspritzung betrifft. Dass sie eine Baugruppe ist statt drei einzelner Formteile, macht das schneller, bedeutet aber auch, dass jedes Mal das ganze Teil in der Hand liegt — es lohnt sich, eine gepolsterte Ablage bereitzuhaben.
