Nimmt man der R9 die Serienfront ab, verliert das Cockpit seine Aufnahme. Das Instrument sitzt an der Struktur hinter den Scheinwerfern, und diese Struktur wandert mit den Scheinwerfern in dieselbe Kiste. AL2001Y bringt das Cockpit zurück: ein Aluminiumhalter, der das Instrument hinter der Rennmaske trägt und der Maske selbst einen Bezugspunkt gibt.

Warum Aluminium und nicht Carbon
Carbonin baut in diesem Programm fast alles aus Verbundwerkstoff, hier nicht. Der Grund ist Schwingung und nicht Festigkeit. Ein Cockpit ist eine Masse am Ende eines Auslegers, und an einem Dreizylinder sitzt sie in einer sehr eigenen Schwingungsumgebung. Aluminium dämpft anders als ein steifes Carbonlaminat und lässt sich vor allem nacharbeiten — ein Metallhalter kann um zwei Millimeter nachgesetzt werden, um einen Kabelbaum oder einen Lenkungsdämpfer freizugehen, ein ausgehärtetes Verbundteil nicht.
Der Winkel zählt mehr, als man denkt
Das Display eines Rennmotorrads wird vielleicht zweimal pro Runde abgelesen, aus voller Ducklage, in einem Moment, in dem der Fahrer anderes zu tun hat. Den Winkel so einzustellen, dass das Display in dieser Haltung senkrecht zur Blickachse steht — nicht in der Box, aufrecht sitzend —, lohnt beim Aufbau die Sorgfalt. Dann ist es eine Arbeit von fünf Minuten, sonst ein Ärgernis für eine ganze Saison.
