Stahl innen, Titan außen
Eine ungewöhnliche Kombination und an einer solchen Maschine eine vernünftige. Die Dämpferkörper sind aus Edelstahl — haltbar und günstig in eine konische Form zu bringen — mit Titanhüllen darüber, aus denen die sichtbare Oberfläche und die Gewichtsersparnis kommen.
Eine reine Titananlage mit zwei Dämpfern hätte für ein Motorrad, das etwa so viel kostet wie eine gute Lederkombi, erheblich mehr gekostet.

Akrapovic beschreibt die Anlage als perfekt zum eigenen Charakter der Monkey passend, was bei den meisten Produkten Füllmaterial wäre. Den Auftritt vervollständigen
Der Carbon-Hitzeschild P-HSH125R1 ersetzt den Serienschild neben diesen Dämpfern. Beide zusammen verändern die gesamte rechte Seite des Motorrads — und an einer Monkey ist das das meiste, was man überhaupt sieht.
Zwei konische Dämpfer
Zwei sich verjüngende Dämpfer, einer je Seite, statt der einzelnen Box, die Honda verbaut. An einem Motorrad, dessen gesamte Gestaltung auf Symmetrie beruht — runder Scheinwerfer, runde Spiegel, ein Tank wie ein Kiesel — zählt diese Entscheidung mehr als die Werkstoffwahl.
Acht Modelljahre
Honda baut die Monkey 125 seit 2019 mit derselben Dämpferaufnahme, auch über den Wechsel auf das Fünfganggetriebe 2022 hinweg. Eine Anlage deckt die gesamte Bauzeit ab.
Wohin das Gewicht gegangen ist
3,7 kg Serienanlage an einem 107-kg-Motorrad sind dreieinhalb Prozent des Ganzen. Honda hat die Geräusch- und Abgasregeln an einer 125er so erfüllt, wie es alle tun — mit einer großen Stahlbox — und die Hälfte davon kommt hier herunter.

Akrapovic gibt an, die Leistung steige über das gesamte Drehzahlband, und die beiden veröffentlichten Punkte bestätigen es: 0,8 Nm bei 3.700/min und 0,6 PS bei 6.300. An einem Motor, der bei rund 8.500 abriegelt, liegen beide in dem Bereich, den eine Monkey tatsächlich nutzt.
