Kleine Sportmotorräder legen enorme Distanzen zurück. In den Märkten, in denen die YZF-R15 ein Mainstream-Motorrad ist und keine Kuriosität, ist ein Exemplar mit deutlich über hunderttausend Kilometern nichts Besonderes, und all diese Kilometer wurden auf einem 155-cm³-Einzylinder zurückgelegt. In diesem Zusammenhang hört die Wahl des Filtermediums auf, ein Detail zu sein. Ein Motor, der so weit laufen soll, ohne geöffnet zu werden, hängt vollständig davon ab, was er geatmet hat, und der feine Anteil ist es, der sich als Verschleiß anhäuft. Der Sprint Filter P14 PM198P14 ist das feinste Gewebe, das für diesen Luftfilterkasten abseits eines Offroad-Mediums angeboten wird: 14 Mikron, trocken, nie geölt.

Die günstigste Komponente in der Verschleißgleichung
Alles andere, was einen laufleistungsstarken Motor schützt, kostet wiederholt Geld – Öl, Ölfilter, Ventilspiel, die Arbeitszeit für deren Kontrolle. Der Luftfilter ist der einzige Posten auf dieser Liste, der nur einmal gekauft werden muss. Er ist außerdem derjenige, der überhaupt erst entscheidet, was ankommt, was ihn zu einem ungewöhnlich guten Ort macht, um Aufmerksamkeit statt Geld zu investieren. Ein feineres Medium zu wählen ist keine Modifikation und erzeugt nichts Messbares auf einem Prüfstand; es schränkt lediglich ein, was durchkommt, bei einem Motor, der noch einen sehr weiten Weg vor sich hat.
Durchfluss, der nicht vermisst wird
Die andere Hälfte muss ebenso ehrlich sein. Der P14 lässt deutlich weniger Luft pro Quadratmeter durch als der Standard-P08, und bei einer Maschine, die viel Zeit im oberen Drehzahlbereich verbringt, wäre das ein berechtigter Einwand. In der Praxis trägt die großzügige Fläche des Elements – etwa doppelt so groß wie bei anderen Performance-Filtern – das Meiste davon, und eine Serien-R15 arbeitet für die überwiegende Mehrheit dieser hunderttausend Kilometer nicht annähernd an der Grenze ihrer Ansaugkapazität. Wird das Bike tatsächlich auf der Rennstrecke bewegt, ist der P08 die bessere Balance und das Racing-Medium F1-85 noch einmal besser; für den Pendelverkehr, der den Tachostand füllt, ist dieses hier das richtige.
Pflege und Reinigung
Der PM198P14 wird mit Druckluft gereinigt, die über die saubere Seite nach außen geführt wird, dann trocken wieder eingebaut. Wenn eine gründlichere Reinigung gewünscht ist, lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel verwenden, spülen, bis das Wasser klar bleibt, und vollständig an der Luft trocknen lassen – niemals mit Hitze, niemals in Flammennähe.
