Die meisten Motorräder werden ein paar Jahre besessen und dann verkauft, und die Rechnung hinter ihrer Wartung spiegelt das wider. Die NM4 Vultus ist nicht die meisten Motorräder. Für drei Modelljahre gebaut, in kleinen Stückzahlen verkauft und von Leuten gekauft, die genau dieses Objekt wollten und nicht Transport, gehört sie zu der kleinen Kategorie von Maschinen, die behalten werden – und sobald der geplante Zeithorizont eher Jahrzehnte als Saisons umfasst, ändert sich die Rechnung hinter einem Filtermedium grundlegend. Der Sprint Filter P14 PM181P14 ist das Element für diesen Zeithorizont: 14 Mikron Filterung aus einem trockenen Vlies, im Tausch gegen Luftdurchfluss, den dieser Motor ohnehin nie genutzt hätte.

Bezahlen mit Durchfluss, den man nie nutzt
Jeder Schritt in Richtung feinerer Filterung wird mit Luftdurchfluss bezahlt. Ob dieser Preis wehtut, hängt vollständig davon ab, ob der Motor den Durchfluss überhaupt wollte. Der 745-cm³-Zweizylinder der NM4 ist ein niedertouriges, drehmomentbetontes Aggregat, das über ein Doppelkupplungsgetriebe angetrieben wird und im normalen Einsatz weit unter seiner Grenze bleibt; er verbringt sein Leben in dem Bereich des Kennfelds, in dem die Ansaugkapazität nicht die Grenze darstellt. Die Differenz zwischen 5.050 und 1.800 l/m²/sek abzugeben kostet dieses Motorrad daher sehr wenig, das es je gebraucht hätte – während das feinere Medium weiterhin den feinen Anteil jedes einzelnen Kilometers zurückhält.
Kleine Produktionsserie, gewöhnliche Teilenummer
Drei Modelljahre sind keine große Versorgungsbasis für Verschleißteile, und Händler führen auf Lager, was sich verkauft. Der PM181P14 umgeht diese Falle gleich zweifach. Er ist kein NM4-spezifisches Teil, sondern das Element für die gesamte NC-Zweizylinder-Plattform, also die Nachfrage von fünf Maschinen hinter einer einzigen Teilenummer – und er ist überhaupt kein Verschleißteil, weil er gereinigt und wieder eingebaut statt weggeworfen wird. Ein Punkt, den man klar benennen sollte: Legt die Vultus die meisten Kilometer auf sauberen, befestigten Straßen zurück, ist der gröbere P08 die ausgewogenere Wahl, und der P14 ist die Antwort auf staubige Luft, nicht auf sorgfältige Pflege.
Pflege und Reinigung
Unter all der Karosserie ist das Element der einfache Teil. Druckluft von der sauberen Seite, nach außen gerichtet, und fertig; wenn es mehr verdient hat, lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis das Wasser klar bleibt, dann an der Luft liegen lassen, bis es ganz durchgetrocknet ist – niemals mit Hitze, niemals mit offener Flamme.
