The part that stops being a line item

Over ten years a paper element is bought again at every interval, and the total is not its price but that price multiplied by however many times the interval comes round — plus the occasions it was not in stock and the motorcycle waited. The P14 changes the shape of that entirely: it is washable and reusable, Sprint Filter design it to last the life of the machine, and compressed air from the clean side restores it. Why the finer medium suits a long ownership

The other half of the argument is what the engine accumulates. Fine particulate that a coarse element passes does not disappear; it goes through the bore, and its effect is cumulative over exactly the timescale an XDiavel owner is planning for. Retaining down to 14 microns rather than 80 is a difference measured over a decade rather than over a season. The cost is flow — 1,800 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 — and on a belt-driven cruiser ridden at road speeds, that is a reserve nobody is calling on. There is no oiling step, and there never has been.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards — a non-woven medium releases dust readily and needs nothing else in normal use. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air; never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry.
