Die Niken wäre nie in den Stückzahlen einer MT-09 gebaut worden. Ein neigbares Dreirad mit zwei Vorderrädern ist eine Maschine für eine kleine, bewusste Gruppe von Fahrern, und das hat Jahre später eine praktische Konsequenz: Kaum ein Händler hat ihre Verschleißteile im Regal. Besitzer von Modellen mit niedriger Stückzahl lernen, in Lieferzeiten zu denken. Der Sprint Filter P08 PM149S streicht einen Punkt komplett von dieser Liste – es handelt sich um ein trockenes Polyesterelement, das gewaschen und wieder eingesetzt statt ersetzt wird, sodass die Ansaugseite aufhört, etwas zu sein, das man beschaffen muss.

Ein seltenes Motorrad auf einem gängigen Teil
Das Vorderrad-Layout macht diese Maschine ungewöhnlich; der Motorraum nicht. Die Niken und die Niken GT teilen sich ihren Luftfilterkasten mit fünf weiteren Maschinen dieser Familie, weshalb dasselbe PM149S-Element alle sechs abdeckt. Das ist gut zu wissen, wenn man etwas in kleinen Stückzahlen Gebautes besitzt: Das Teil, das Sie brauchen, ist kein Niken-Teil, es ist ein Plattform-Teil, und Plattform-Teile bleiben lange verfügbar, nachdem ein Nischenmodell die Preisliste verlassen hat. Sprint Filter legt dieses Element ohnehin auf die Lebensdauer des Motorrads aus, was die Versorgungsfrage zu einer macht, die man nur einmal stellt.
Zwei Vorderräder, ein Luftweg
Eine Niken wird meist so gefahren, wie sie gekauft wurde – lange Tage, echte Distanzen, Wetter genommen wie es kommt, statt abgewartet. Das ist ein Belastungszyklus, gemessen in Stunden Luftdurchsatz, nicht in trockenen Sonntagen, und ein Filter altert nach Volumen und Qualität der durchgeströmten Luft, nicht nach dem Kilometerstand. Zwei Fahrer können beim selben Wartungsintervall ankommen und dabei Elemente in völlig unterschiedlichem Zustand haben. Mit einem waschbaren Element lautet die Antwort nicht ein kürzeres Intervall, sondern eine Kontrolle, auf die man noch am selben Nachmittag reagieren kann, egal wo man sich gerade befindet.
Pflege und Reinigung
Das Sprint-Filter-Wartungsblatt im Reiter „Downloads“ deckt das vollständig ab, und es ist eine kurze Liste. Druckluft von der sauberen Seite nach außen erledigt den Normalfall. Wo das Element mehr aufgenommen hat, als Luft bewegen kann, hilft lauwarmes Wasser mit einem milden Reinigungsmittel, gefolgt von einer Spülung, bis das Wasser klar durchläuft. Getrocknet wird ausschließlich an der Luft – nicht mit Hitze, nicht über einer Flamme – und das Element muss vollständig trocken sein, bevor es wieder eingesetzt wird. Zu keinem Zeitpunkt wird etwas geölt; das Polyester ist von Haus aus trocken.
