Ein Filter steht in einer Kette von Drosselungen, nie für sich allein. Zwischen der Außenluft und dem Brennraum einer Panigale V2 955 liegen Ansaugkanäle, das Volumen und die Form des Luftfilterkastens, Drosselklappen, Ventilsteuerzeiten, ein Auspuff mit eigenem Gegendruck und ein darauf abgestimmtes Mapping. Ein Glied dieser Kette weiter zu öffnen, verändert die Kette nur, wenn genau dieses Glied die Bremse war. Bei einer Serien-V2-955 ist der Filter nicht dieses Glied, und diese Seite wird nichts anderes vorgeben.

Das Glied, das nie die Bremse war
Ducati dimensionierte das Papierelement mit Reserve auf den gebauten Motor, und die Ansaugung wurde anschließend als ein Gesamtsystem abgenommen. Ein durchlässigeres Gewebe einzusetzen, hebt eine Drosselung auf, die nicht die Grenze gesetzt hat, also wird das Serienmotorrad nicht stärker, nur weil sich das Element darin geändert hat. Zahlen, die für Teile wie dieses angegeben werden, stammen meist aus einer Session, in der sich gleichzeitig mehrere andere Dinge geändert haben. Das Gewebe ist eine echte Spezifikation und ein schwaches Versprechen, und es lohnt sich, es genau in dieser Reihenfolge zu lesen.
Was bleibt, wenn die Leistungsbehauptung entfällt
Drei Dinge, und sie tragen diese Seite. Der Widerstand über das Element beginnt niedrig und kehrt nach jeder Reinigung zum selben Wert zurück, statt über ein Intervall hinweg anzusteigen, wie es ein sich zusetzendes Papierelement tut. Nichts ist geölt, also gibt es keinen Film, der darauf wartet, auf die Sensoren einer Maschine gezogen zu werden, die davon einige trägt. Und das Teil ist eine feste Einrichtung, kein Verschleißteil: R127S F1-85-AVIO wird einmal gekauft, für ein Motorrad, das jemand behalten möchte – die einzige Rechnung, unter der eine Baugruppe von diesem Ende der Preisliste überhaupt Sinn ergibt.
Pflege und Reinigung
Trocken warten. Eine an die saubere Seite gehaltene und langsam über das Gewebe geführte Druckluftleitung drückt die Ladung denselben Weg zurück, den sie kam, und das ist meist die ganze Arbeit. Wasser ist die Ausnahme: handwarm, ein Tropfen mildes Reinigungsmittel, gespült, bis nichts mehr aus dem Gewebe kommt. Was folgt, ist der Schritt, den Leute überstürzen – das Element muss so lange in bewegter Luft stehen, bis es durchgetrocknet ist, ohne jede Wärme, die nachhilft, denn Wärme ist genau das, was ein Polyestergewebe nicht übersteht.
