Flow only counts where the airbox is what stops an engine from getting more air, and on a Street Triple 675 that is true for a few seconds at a time, at wide-open throttle near the top of the rev range. The aperture of the fabric carries no such condition. It is open every second the engine runs: in traffic, in a queue behind a lorry, on a wet spring motorway when the road is at its dirtiest. The Sprint Filter PM143S F1-85 puts 15,000 l/m²/sec and an 85 µm aperture into the standard airbox, and both halves of that sentence deserve reading before ordering.
Key Features
- The racing weave of the Sprint Filter range: aperture 85 µm, flow 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Five microns wider than the 80 µm of the standard P08, which flows 5,050 l/m²/sec — more air, less held back
- Dry polyester end to end, never oiled, with no film that can be pulled downstream
- A straight exchange for the series element, with the fuelling left as Triumph set it
- Serviced with an air line and reused for the life of the machine, not replaced at every interval
- Warranted for two years from the date it is bought
Headroom you reach twice a year, an aperture that is open all year
The two figures on a filter are not used at the same rate. A naked road bike asks for maximum airflow rarely and briefly; the rest of the time it runs at part throttle, where the standard element was never the limit. Dirt keeps no such hours. It arrives with every litre the engine draws, and a naked bike sits in the worst of it — brake dust, tyre rubber, the fine grit that lives in the first metre above the tarmac. That is the asymmetry to weigh: the benefit is intermittent, the concession continuous.
The two media a road-ridden 675 is more often specified for
A finer weave holds back more and passes less. That is a trade rather than a ranking, and Sprint Filter build this panel in several media so the choice is made per bike. The P08 sits at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, the medium a road bike with the odd track day is specified around. The P14, a dry special non-woven, goes to 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec, and its low flow figure is deliberate: the answer to dust, daily use and long distances. The F1-85 sits at the far end of that line and earns its place on a machine whose engine runs to a race schedule. A Street Triple used on the road is usually not that machine.
Care and cleaning
The PM143S F1-85 is regenerated dry: an air line held to the clean face, working the dirt back out the way it came, which for a bike used in the dry is the whole service. After a winter, wash it instead — lukewarm water, mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. Let it dry completely in open air, away from heat and flame, and fit it dry. No oil at the end, and nothing to buy for the next service. The maintenance sheet is filed under the Downloads tab.
