The GSX-S 1000/GT/GX listing is the touring half of this platform: the same engine and the same airbox, but a fairing, luggage and a rider who counts a trip in days rather than afternoons. That changes what a racing filter is being asked to do more thoroughly than any state of tune would, because a sport tourer does not demand air in bursts. It demands it for hours at a stretch — and the two halves of the F1-85 trade do not scale the same way with time.
Key Features
- Dry racing polyester with an 85-micron aperture — the most open weave in the range
- Flow capacity of 15,000 litres per square metre per second, against 5,050 for the road P08
- Never oiled: nothing to re-treat after a wash, nothing to migrate downstream
- Only the element is exchanged; the airbox, the mapping and the ducting stay as delivered
- Cleaned on the road with an air line, and put back in as many times as you like
- Backed for two years from the date it was bought
Bursts and hours are not the same demand
Flow capacity is spent at the top of the rev range. A loaded GT or GX in top gear at motorway pace is nowhere near it: the throttle sits well open, mass flow is high and unbroken, but the revs that would call on 15,000 litres per square metre per second belong to a gear the rider left behind an hour ago. The wider 85-micron aperture, by contrast, works through every one of those hours, and the air behind motorway traffic is where the fine mineral fraction lives. On the naked version of this platform, ridden in short hard bursts, the reserve at least gets used. On the touring version the account runs more one-sided.
When it is still the right element for this bike
There are GT and GX owners for whom the answer turns around: a machine that tours through the summer and also visits a couple of open track days uses both ends of the range, and the airbox has no idea which it is doing on a given morning. For that pattern this element covers both jobs and the racing weave is no mistake — provided the intake and the oil are judged by hours under load rather than by the trip meter. For touring alone, the standard P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second is more filter for the work. A route with gravel car parks and southern dust argues for the finer media instead: P037 at 37 microns and 4,500, P14 at 14 and 1,800. Every step finer holds more and flows less — a trade to be set on purpose, not a ladder to be climbed.
Care and cleaning
At the end of a long stage the PM236S F1-85 needs an air line and two minutes, the jet directed at the clean face and pushed outwards. When more is warranted, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do, rinsed until the water is clear, then dried fully in open air with no heat and no flame involved. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki GSX-S 1000/GT/GX, 2022 to 2026, as a straight exchange inside the standard airbox. Four machines on this platform share the element; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
