This element does not come with a mileage figure. It comes with a habit. A racing medium is chosen inside a routine that takes the airbox apart frequently, and everything about the coarser weave is calculated on the assumption that the routine is there. Where the habit is missing, only half of the trade actually happens: the filtration is handed over on schedule, and the throughput waits for a use that never arrives.

A regime, not an interval

The instruction that comes with a racing cloth is not written in kilometres. It says: open the box, clean the element, put it back, and do it again soon. That is the compensation for a wider aperture, and it works because a machine on a race schedule is opened up constantly anyway. Take the same cloth into an ownership where the bike is serviced once a year and the compensation simply does not get paid. The medium behaves exactly as specified; what fails is the assumption around it.

How this machine is generally used

The Superveloce is bought in named versions — Oro, Ago, Nero Carbon — and it tends to be ridden in shorter, more deliberate outings than the Brutale it shares an engine family with. Fewer hours a year means less demand for capacity and less appetite for a shortened cleaning cycle, both of which pull in the same direction. The standard P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec is the honest recommendation for that pattern, at a fraction of the price, keeping every property that matters here: a dry medium, twice the usual cloth area, a wash instead of a purchase. CM135S F1-85 belongs to the owner who has genuinely built the routine, not to the one who intends to.

Care and cleaning

Whichever cloth is fitted, the method is identical and the tools are few. Compressed air, applied to the clean side and directed outward, is the whole of a normal service. Water is the exception: hand-warm, with a mild washing-up liquid, when something has been left behind that air will not take, and rinsed until the water runs clean. Afterwards it dries in air, unhurried and away from every heat source — a hot-air gun or a flame will destroy the fibre — and it goes back only when dry, with nothing added to it.
