One number gets quoted whenever the racing medium comes up: Sprint Filter's comparison puts the P08 F1-85 at 95.22 per cent retention on 100-micron particles, against 93.13 per cent for the standard P08. Read quickly, that sounds as though the racing cloth also filters better, and on a CFMOTO NK 450, where both elements drop into the same housing, the conclusion is tempting. It does not follow. A 100-micron test particle is larger than either medium's opening, so both stop almost all of it, and the margin says little about the range where the two cloths actually part company.
Key Features
- Retention quoted by Sprint Filter at 95.22 per cent of 100-micron test particles
- An 85 micron aperture at a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec — the racing end of the P08 family
- Never oiled: dry cloth, so nothing can be carried forward onto a sensor
- Roughly double the filtering area presented by a usual performance element
- Direct replacement in the standard NK 450 airbox, with the mapping untouched
- Restored with air rather than replaced; covered for two years from purchase
Which figure describes the fine end
What separates an 80 micron weave from an 85 micron one happens well below 100 microns — in the fraction light enough to stay suspended and slip past anything that would stop visible grit. No percentage in that published comparison speaks to this band, and the aperture figures are the nearest thing to an answer: five microns of extra opening, on the road, across thousands of kilometres between services. In competition that is a rational price to pay for the flow. Bought for an NK 450 that commutes, it is a small standing concession made in return for capacity the engine never draws on.
The ratio, stated plainly
This element asks close to three times what the standard P08 for the same box does, so it is worth being exact about where that difference goes. It does not go into the washable habit, because the road medium is equally dry and equally reusable. It does not go into fitment, which is identical. It does not go into output either: no drop-in panel makes a standard NK 450 measurably faster, since airbox, throttle body and fuelling were signed off as one arrangement and a filter does not reopen that. What is left is a flow rate, and a flow rate pays only where a rider spends real time at full throttle.
Care and cleaning
Air first: hold the compressor line to the clean side of the PM270S F1-85 and drive the load back out through the face that collected it. Water is for the rest — lukewarm, a trace of mild detergent, then a thorough rinse. After that nothing but time and moving air; heat sources of every kind ruin polyester, so no drying near a heater or a flame, and nothing goes back into the housing while it is still damp. The maintenance sheet for this element is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
