This airbox is offered three ways, and setting them side by side is the quickest way to see what the PM227S F1-85 actually is. A P14 filters at 14 microns and flows a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec; the standard P08 sits at 80 microns and 5,050; this element opens to 85 microns and 15,000. That is one axis with a single rule running along it — the finer the material, the more it holds back and the less it passes for a given area — and no point on the axis is the best one. A CFMOTO NK 300 on public roads belongs nearer the fine end than the far one.
Key Features
- The high-flow end of the three media offered for this housing: 85 µm at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester in the racing specification, oiled at no point in its life
- Filtering area roughly twice that of a conventional performance element
- The same direct fit as the other two media: series airbox, no modification, no remap
- Regenerated with compressed air and refitted; a service consumes nothing
- Two-year warranty, with the element specified for the life of the machine
An axis, not a ladder
The temptation with a range like this is to read it as a hierarchy and buy the top of it, and nothing in the figures supports that. Each medium is placed where a particular kind of air meets a particular kind of use: the finest for loaded, dusty conditions where retention comes first; the standard weave for the mixture of roads most machines actually see; this one for an engine being asked for everything it has, repeatedly, in air clean enough to make a wider opening reasonable. Chosen by conditions, the answer is usually obvious. Chosen by rank, it is usually wrong.
Two model years, and a plain recommendation
The NK 300 appears in this listing for 2019 and 2020, and machines of that age are mostly doing ordinary work: commuting, weekends, the occasional longer run. For that the standard element in the same housing is the better part, and this one asks close to three times as much for capacity the engine will not call on. There is no power in it either — a drop-in filter does not make a standard NK 300 noticeably quicker. The PM227S F1-85 is listed here because the airbox accepts it, and it is the right choice for an NK 300 that races.
Care and cleaning
All three media for this housing are serviced identically. Compressed air on the clean face, worked outward, restores the element in ordinary use. If a film has built up that air will not move, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent will, rinsed out thoroughly. Drying is done in moving air and never with heat, since a heat gun or a flame damages polyester, and the panel returns to the box dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the CFMOTO NK 300 as built in 2019 and 2020. Three CFMOTO machines take this element; check the list on this page against your own before ordering.
