Look down this filter's fitment list and the letter R turns up twice: once on a 250 built until 2021, once on this 310 built from 2021 to 2023. Two different machines, two different capacities, one element between them. The instinct with a model designation is that it must separate parts. Here it separates nothing at all, and knowing that saves a lot of second-guessing at the point of ordering.

Sprint Filter catalogues by airbox, not by model. That is why nine Zontes entries across three capacities and five body letters come back to a single code. Whatever separates these machines from one another — bodywork, riding position, chassis, calibration — sits on either side of the intake rather than inside it, so it never reaches the element. The practical consequence is that the ordering question is not which letter is on your bike. It is whether your model year falls inside the range printed against the code, and for the ZT 310-R that range is 2021 to 2023 with no split inside it.

What arrives in the box

A panel, in the shape of the one already fitted, in a material that behaves differently over time. It will not make a standard ZT 310-R faster; no drop-in filter does, and any listing that suggests otherwise is describing a hope rather than a part. What it does is hold the intake restriction lower and, more importantly, hold it steadier: the resistance of a dry weave is reset every time it is cleaned, while a paper panel only ever moves in one direction between services.

Care and cleaning

Blow the SM277S through from the clean side towards the dirty one, so the dust leaves by the route it came in on. Anything that will not shift dry comes out under lukewarm water with mild detergent; keep rinsing until the run-off is clear. Drying happens in open moving air and nowhere near a heat source — polyester distorts long before it looks damaged — and the element goes back in dry and untreated.
