The model name is not enough to order by. A CBR500R built in 2018 and a CBR500R built in 2019 take different Sprint Filter codes: this one, CM136S, covers the 2013–2018 CBR500R and CB500F, while the later machine's housing is served by its own number. Same name on the fairing, different box behind it. The year is the ordering criterion here, and the fitment tab is the place to settle it.

Why the generation matters more than the name

Honda kept the CBR500R name across a redesign, and the intake was part of what changed. For anyone shopping in 2026 that has a practical consequence: a search on the model name alone returns elements for both generations, and only the build year separates them. Machines from 2013 to 2018 belong to this code. Later ones do not, however similar the fairing looks. It is the kind of detail that a parts counter used to catch and a search box does not, which is why the years are printed on this page rather than left implied.

An older bike, an honest expectation

A machine from this window is out of warranty and, in most cases, well past its first owner. That is worth saying plainly, because it sets what a filter can and cannot do. The CM136S does not restore what wear has taken, and in an unmodified airbox it leaves a standard CBR500R exactly as strong as it was. What it does is remove one recurring consumable from the maintenance list and hold the intake restriction steady between services instead of letting it climb as a paper element loads up. On a bike being kept rather than traded, that is the useful kind of upgrade.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air, applied to the clean face of the CM136S and worked outwards, is the routine. Twice a year, or after a dusty summer, lukewarm water with a mild detergent does what air cannot; rinse until the water leaves clear. Drying is done in moving air at room temperature and by nothing else — heat destroys the weave invisibly. Refit it dry, with nothing sprayed on.
