Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Ducati Monster 821 (2019–2020) CM61S

The 821 is the Monster that has to do everything — enough engine to be genuinely quick, mild enough to commute on, and fitted with the electronics package the air-cooled bikes never had. That last point is the one that should decide your filter choice. A bike whose riding modes, traction control and fuelling all depend on knowing exactly how much air is entering the engine is a bike where you do not put anything tacky upstream of the sensor. The Sprint Filter P08 CM61S is a dry polyester element: no filter oil anywhere in the system.

The argument against oiled cotton

An oiled gauze filter works by making dust stick to a tacky film, and it filters perfectly well. The problem is that oil migrates when the airbox runs warm and the bike is used hard, and the hot-film sensor sits directly downstream. A contaminated sensor does not fail cleanly — it reads low, the engine management works from a wrong number, and the resulting fault is maddening to trace because every individual component tests fine. Dry polyester removes the mechanism rather than reducing the odds.

Two duty cycles, one filter

Commuting loads an element slowly and invisibly; a hard weekend ride puts it under high sustained flow. Twice the filtering surface handles both from a lower starting restriction, and because it washes, it returns to that starting point instead of drifting permanently away from it.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry.
