Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – BMW R nineT Scrambler (2021–2024) PM109S

In 2021 the R nineT range stopped agreeing on a filter. The roadster moved to a new part number for the model years from 2021 onward; the Scrambler did not, and Sprint Filter still lists it on the PM109S — the same element as the 2017 bike and as an HP2 Enduro from 2006. Two motorcycles out of one family, standing in the same showroom in the same year, took different panels. Whatever else that says about how the range was updated, it changes the way this part has to be ordered.

When the year alone will not do

Most fitment mistakes on a long-running range come from trusting a date. Here a date is not enough. A 2022 R nineT and a 2022 R nineT Scrambler share an engine, a frame concept and most of a badge, and they do not share this panel, so the variant name has to be read off the registration document before anything is ordered. That habit is worth carrying to the rest of the list as well: the GS models this element covers are the air-cooled boxers up to 2012, not the liquid-cooled machine that inherited their name afterwards.

What the split did not touch

Underneath the catalogue's fork, the cloth is unchanged, and the cloth is what does the work. One dry woven layer, an aperture of 80 µm, a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, and something close to double the filtering surface of other performance elements folded into the standard frame. The proposition is as modest as ever. This adds no power to a standard Scrambler, because a panel sits inside an intake that was signed off with a panel already in it. What it does is hold the resistance of that intake low and, more usefully, repeatable — brought back with an air line rather than allowed to drift upward until a new part has to be bought.

Care and cleaning

An air line does the ordinary work on the PM109S: apply it to the clean face and blow outward, so the load leaves the weave the way it entered. If a season of wet roads has left a film that will not lift, warm water and a mild detergent shift it, followed by a rinse until the run-off is clear. The element then dries fully in moving air — heat is what ruins polyester, so no radiator, no hot air gun, no flame — and is fitted dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
