Wo eine Strecke zurückläuft
Untersitzanlagen, enge Zwei-in-Eins-Arbeiten und die Überkreuzungen mancher V-Twins verlangen alle, dass das Rohr vollständig umkehrt — in einem Raum, in den sonst nichts passt. Dafür gibt es diesen Artikel.
Die Alternative sind zwei 90°-Bögen mit einer Geraden dazwischen: drei Teile, zwei Nähte, mehr Länge und ein breiteres U. Wo der Platz da ist, ist das Paar verstellbarer. Wo nicht, funktioniert nur dies.
Feste Breite, und warum das in Ordnung ist
Der Abstand der beiden Schenkel eines U-Bogens ist vom Werkzeug bestimmt und nicht veränderbar. Das klingt nach einer Einschränkung und ist selten eine: Der Grund, warum eine Strecke zurückläuft, ist fast immer ein physisches Hindernis — und das engstmögliche U ist es, was daran vorbeikommt.
Braucht der Entwurf ein breiteres U, spricht das für zwei rechte Winkel.
Die anspruchsvollste Umformung
Hundertachtzig Grad sind doppelt so viel Umformung wie ein rechter Winkel, bei gleicher Wand und gleichem Dorn. Die äußere Ferse streckt sich weiter und wird dünner; die innere hat mehr Material zu stauchen, ohne zu falten.
Deshalb baut Spark diesen Winkel in zwei Durchmessern statt in vierzehn — und deshalb bringt ihn keine Werkstattmaschine zustande.
Ein U in zwei Ecken teilen
Am Scheitel geschnitten wird aus einem U-Bogen ein Paar rechter Winkel mit je einem geraden Ende. Bei einem Aufbau, der zwei Ecken in derselben Ebene braucht, liefert ein Artikel also beide — und weil er günstiger ist als zwei Einzelteile, lohnt die Rechnung vor der Bestellung.
Entwässerung
Ein U, dessen Krümmung unten liegt, ist eine Falle: Kondensat sammelt sich am tiefsten Punkt und steht dort zwischen den Fahrten. An einem Straßenmotorrad verrottet die Anlage genau dort von innen. Wo die Anordnung es zulässt, den Bogen mit der Krümmung nach oben einbauen — sonst am tiefsten Punkt eine kleine Ablaufbohrung setzen.
