Wo es sitzt
Als Maß nennt Öhlins Durchmesser 14 mm, Länge 167 mm. Beim Einbau wird die Welle geölt, damit die Lippe beim ersten Hub nicht trocken läuft. Öhlins schleift die Wellen nach dem Verchromen auf Endmaß. Ein Schlag in der Welle führt zu ungleichmäßiger Dämpfung über den Hub.

Öhlins hält seine Fahrwerke über Einzelteile am Leben; deshalb lässt sich ein fünfzehn Jahre altes Federbein noch überholen statt ersetzen. Öhlins hält Positionen oft über Modellgenerationen hinweg gleich, tauscht aber ohne Ankündigung Werkstoffe. Bei mehreren gleich beschriebenen Größen entscheidet allein die Nummer, welche gemeint ist. Serienmäßige Positionen halten wir vorrätig; Sonderteile bestellen wir gezielt.
Die Gewinde an den Enden nehmen Kolben und Endstück auf und sind auf Moment ausgelegt. Öhlins fertigt Serviceteile in denselben Toleranzen wie die Erstausrüstung; ein Nachbau trifft die Passung selten. Schon feine Kratzer auf der Welle zerstören die Dichtlippe binnen weniger Fahrten.
Zuordnung über die Nummer
Nummer 64103-14 und Maß gehören zusammen; weicht eines ab, ist es die falsche Position. Die Welle trägt am Ende den Kolben und die Shims, die die Dämpfung bilden. Ihre Oberfläche ist hartverchromt, damit die Dichtung nicht am blanken Stahl läuft.
