Funktion
Ein Maß gibt es hier nicht zu prüfen — Nummer und Explosionszeichnung bestimmen die Position. Ein ausgeschlagener Versteller rastet nicht mehr sauber und verstellt sich beim Fahren. Zwischen den Rasten liegt ein definierter Winkel; Zwischenstellungen bringen nichts. Zug- und Druckstufe werden getrennt eingestellt, oft an gegenüberliegenden Enden.

Ist die Nummer bekannt, ist die Zuordnung eindeutig — anders als bei der Beschreibung allein. Bei mehreren gleich beschriebenen Größen entscheidet allein die Nummer, welche gemeint ist.
Sie können die Nummer auch mit der Rechnung der letzten Wartung abgleichen. Wer über die Rasten hinaus verstellt, beschädigt Nadel und Sitz. Die Nadel hat eine Spitze mit flachem Winkel, damit die Änderung fein ausfällt. Ein überholtes Federbein arbeitet wieder mit der Dämpfung, die im Datenblatt steht — vorausgesetzt, die Teile stimmen.
