Öhlins and Forged Wheels
The S specification brought Öhlins suspension, a matching steering damper and forged Marchesini wheels. It was the version most 1199 buyers chose and it was worth the difference on a circuit.
Electronic Suspension, Early
The 1199 S carried Ducati's first electronically adjustable Öhlins on a superbike, with settings changed from the dashboard. In 2012 that was genuinely novel rather than expected.
A Wide Bore and a Short Stroke
The Superquadro's 112 millimetre bore was the widest ever used in a production motorcycle engine. It let the valves grow and the revs climb, and it gave the twin a top end that nothing before it had.
The Throttle Assembly Alone
This replaces the housing without touching the switch block. It is the appropriate choice when the switches still work and only the moulded plastic around the grip is bothering the owner.
Bore Tolerance
A machined bore keeps the throttle tube turning smoothly and concentrically for far longer than a moulded one. On a ride-by-wire bike that consistency is what the sensor is reading.
One Finish
Black, anodised through the surface rather than sprayed onto it. A scuff dulls the metal instead of lifting a coating away from the edge.
Two Halves and a Clip
The standard housing is moulded in sections and held with clips. Over a decade of use those lose tension, and the resulting movement at the bar end is what most owners notice first.
Made From Solid
Cut from a single block of Ergal 7075. There is no seam anywhere in the body, which removes both the rattle and the route water takes into the assembly.
