The Last Air-Cooled Twin
The 1079 cc engine came from the Monster 1100 and was softened to 86 horsepower. Emissions rules have since ended air cooling at Ducati entirely and nothing is going to replace it.
Cornering ABS on a Retro
Ducati fitted a Bosch inertial platform to a motorcycle styled around 1970s desert sleds. The contrast is deliberate and it is one of the reasons the 1100 works as well as it does.
Three Anodised Finishes
Black, red and titanium, converted into the top layer of the metal. On a bike with this much exposed metal and almost no bodywork, a coated finish would show every mark.
Modes and Menus
Three riding modes and adjustable traction, selected from this block. It is more electronics than the Scrambler's appearance suggests and all of it lives on the left.
Sealed Elements
Enclosed inside the machined body. A Scrambler is ridden casually and parked outdoors, which over a decade is harder on switchgear than a season of track use.

Monobloc calipers on a bike dressed as a 1970s desert sled. The gap between how the Scrambler presents itself and what it actually carries is most of its appeal.
Bigger Where It Counts
A longer wheelbase, a heavier frame and considerably more presence than the 800. The 1100 exists for riders who tried a Scrambler, liked the idea and wanted something more substantial underneath it.
Torque Rather Than Revs
The air-cooled twin produces its pull low and then tapers off, which suits the way a Scrambler is actually ridden. Chasing the redline on one is missing the point entirely.
Values Already Moving
Nothing will replace a large air-cooled Ducati twin, and the market has worked that out. Clean 1100s have stopped depreciating in the way an ordinary five-year-old motorcycle does.
