Überall geschärft
Öhlins, eine kürzere Endübersetzung und der V4 in seiner aggressivsten Ausführung. Das ist die Version, die von Fahrern gekauft wird, die anschließend eine Auspuffanlage montieren und erwarten, dass das Gemisch mitzieht.
Was es nicht beheben kann
Einen verschlissenen Drosselklappensensor, einen undichten Ansaugstutzen, einen verstopften Filter oder ein klemmendes Ventil. Ein Modul korrigiert ausschließlich die Kraftstoffmenge und nichts sonst. Wer eines einbaut, um einen mechanischen Defekt zu verdecken, verschiebt die Diagnose nur, statt sie zu vermeiden.
Bei einem aktuellen Motorrad
Die Euro-5-Abstimmung ist enger toleriert und feiner aufgelöst als alles zuvor, weshalb der Gewinn kleiner ausfällt und sich größtenteils auf den Übergang aus geschlossenem Gas beschränkt.
Zweihundert Gramm und ein Kabel
Das ist das gesamte physische Produkt. Die eigentliche Ingenieursleistung steckt in der Kennlinie und im Kabelbaum – beides ist auch mit abgenommener Sitzbank nicht zu sehen.
Physisch klein
Etwa in der Größe einer Streichholzschachtel und rund zweihundert Gramm schwer. Die eigentliche Herausforderung an einem Motorrad ist nie das Modul selbst, sondern lediglich einen ordentlichen Kabelweg zu finden.
Was ein Modul nicht erreicht
Den Zündzeitpunkt, die Drehzahlbegrenzung, die Drosselklappenkennlinie bei einem Ride-by-Wire-System und sämtliche elektronischen Fahrhilfen. All das gehört zum Serien-Steuergerät und bleibt dort.
Gebrauchtkauf
Ein Motorrad, das mit bereits montiertem Modul angeboten wird, sollte darunter die unversehrten Originalstecker besitzen. Das lässt sich mit abgenommener Sitzbank in einer Minute prüfen und klärt, ob irgendetwas durchtrennt wurde.
Dokumentation
Es gibt davon nur sehr wenig, weil es auch nur wenig zu sagen gibt. Eine Angabe zur Steckerposition, ein Hinweis auf Wärme und eine Anmerkung zur Rückbaubarkeit decken alles ab, was ein Besitzer wissen muss.
