Die DesertX trägt einen Gitterrohrrahmen aus Stahl, und Gitterrohrrahmen aus Stahl sind lackiert. Lack auf einem Rahmenholm, der genau dort sitzt, wo ein Stiefel, ein Packriemen oder ein Stein landet, hält nicht lange. Diese Abdeckungen legen eine austauschbare Carbonfläche zwischen den Rahmen und alles, was ihn zerkratzen will.

Schutz für etwas, das sich nicht leicht nachlackieren lässt
Rahmenlack ist die eine Oberfläche am Motorrad, die sich wirklich schwer wiederherstellen lässt. Sauber ausbessern heißt, das Motorrad bis auf den Holm zu zerlegen, und das macht niemand wegen eines Kratzers. Rost, der in einem Lackabplatzer an einem Gitterrohr beginnt, ist ein langsames, stilles Problem, das Jahre später als Rechnung auftaucht.
Genau darin liegt der Sinn dieser Paneele: Sie sind günstig im Verhältnis zu dem, was sie schützen, und sie sind Verbrauchsmaterial. Montieren Sie sie roh, wenn das Motorrad hart genutzt wird, und akzeptieren Sie, dass sie gebraucht aussehen werden – das ist der Punkt. Klarlack lohnt, wenn die DesertX überwiegend Straßenmotorrad ist und die Rahmenholme zum Erscheinungsbild gehören.
Koffer und Gurte
Wenn die DesertX weiches Gepäck trägt, werden diese Abdeckungen vom kosmetischen zum funktionalen Teil. Weiche Satteltaschen werden von Gurten gehalten, die über die Rahmenholme laufen, und ein belasteter Gurt unter Vibration wirkt wie Schleifpapier: Er poliert auf einer einzigen langen Reise durch den Rahmenlack. Ein Carbonpaneel zwischen Gurt und Rohr nimmt diesen Verschleiß auf.
Hartkoffer sind weniger fordernd, weil die Last in einen Träger geht statt über den Rahmen – die Halterungen selbst sitzen aber nah an den Holmen und können bei Verwindung scheuern. So oder so lohnt es sich, die Abdeckungen vor der ersten beladenen Reise zu montieren und nicht danach, denn den Schaden, den sie verhindern, bekommt man nachträglich nicht weg.
