Die Bedingung und das Teil, das sie erfüllt
Die meisten Rennanlagen dieses Katalogs haben schlicht keine Genehmigung. Die Racing Line der Kawasaki 650 ist anders: Sie ist EG- und ECE-typgenehmigt und bleibt es, solange ein Katalysator in der Anlage sitzt.
Den Katalysator für ein paar PS mehr auszubauen macht aus der ganzen Anlage ein Streckenteil, und kein Papier überlebt das. Wer die Racing Line für die Straße kauft, braucht diese Nummer daneben.
Auch ein Ersatzteil
Der andere Grund, einen Katalysator zu bestellen, ist ein defekter. Das kommt vor — Hitzewechsel reißen den Träger, und unverbrannter Kraftstoff nach Zündaussetzern kann ihn schmelzen. Ein Motorrad von 2017 ist heute alt genug, dass das eine reale und keine theoretische Möglichkeit ist.
Ein defekter Katalysator zeigt sich als Klappern aus dem Auspuff, als fehlende Leistung oben heraus oder bei der Abgasuntersuchung. Von außen sieht man es nicht.
Was darin steckt
Eine Metallwabe mit einer Washcoat-Schicht, die Palladium, Rhodium und Platin trägt. Gas, das über diese Flächen streicht, gibt Kohlenmonoxid und unverbrannte Kohlenwasserstoffe ab, die zu Kohlendioxid und Wasserdampf umgewandelt werden.
Die Edelmetalle sind der Kostenpunkt. Deshalb ist ein gebrauchter Katalysator eine schlechte Idee: Die Beschichtung lässt sich nicht prüfen, und ein vergifteter sieht aus wie ein funktionierender.
Abgestimmt, nicht universal
Akrapovic beschreibt seine Katalysatoren als leistungsorientiert und darauf entwickelt, Klang und Durchfluss zu erhalten, um die herum die Anlagen gebaut sind. Ein Katalysator ist immer ein Widerstand; die Konstruktionsfrage lautet, wie klein dieser Widerstand sein kann, ohne die Prüfung zu verfehlen.
Das ist der Unterschied zu einem Universalersatzteil, und deshalb setzen die veröffentlichten Werte der Anlage genau diesen Katalysator voraus.
Der Parallel-Twin, für den er gebaut wurde
Kawasakis 649-cm³-Twin in Ninja 650 und Z650 leistet rund 68 PS und gehört zu den verbreitetsten A2-tauglichen Mittelklassemaschinen in Deutschland. Er wurde zum Jahr 2021 überarbeitet; Maschinen ab diesem Jahr brauchen ein anderes Teil.
Keine Auspuffanlage
Geliefert wird ein Katalysator. Kein Dämpfer, keine Krümmer, kein Verbindungsrohr. Das vervollständigt eine Anlage und ist keine.
Zulassung
Akrapovic verzeichnet für diesen Katalysator eine EG-Zulassung. In der Racing Line verbaut, ist er die Bedingung, auf der die Straßenlegalität dieser Anlage ruht.
