A washable air filter makes an assumption about the person buying it: that the airbox will actually be opened. Cleaned, the element is cheaper and cleaner than a panel replaced every service; never cleaned, it is only a paper panel that nobody replaced either. The V-Strom 650XT is a fair place to say that out loud. These are high-mileage motorcycles, usually kept by riders who do their own oil changes and count kilometres in tens of thousands. The Sprint Filter P08 PM114S is built for that rider.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in a single layer, dry from new — no oil to re-apply, none to reach the sensors
- 80 µm filtration at a flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road and track specification
- Thread diameter starts at ø 22 microns; the mesh between the threads does the filtering
- About twice the working surface of a typical performance filter
- A direct replacement in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap
- Blown clean, refitted, and covered for two years from the date of purchase
What the element asks of you
The service itself is short: compressed air from the clean side outwards, a look through the media against a light, back into the box. It costs no parts, so it never waits on a delivery, and it happens on the afternoon you choose rather than the week a box arrives. That is the whole case for a lifetime element, and it collapses if the job is never done. If you would rather not open an airbox at all, the honest advice is to keep buying paper panels on schedule; this one earns its price in the hands of someone who services it. What it will not do is add power. A drop-in element does not make a standard 650 twin noticeably stronger, and any listing claiming otherwise is describing a different product.
Why the intake never reminds you
Nothing on the motorcycle raises the subject. The element sits out of sight, the injection trims around a rising restriction long before the throttle hand notices, and no roadworthiness test looks inside an airbox. So it is judged by the calendar or not at all — and on a machine that covers big distances the calendar moves quickly. Route matters more than the odometer: sustained motorway load pulls fine dust deep into any medium, and loose surfaces are a different problem again. If an XT genuinely lives on dust and gravel, the T12 is made for that air, filtering at 7 µm and flowing 560 l/m²/sec against the P08's 80 µm and 5,050 — finer holds more and flows less, a trade rather than an upgrade. On tarmac the P08 is the right end of it.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side outwards is the normal service for the PM114S, and it goes back in dry. Where a wet, salted winter has left a film, lukewarm water with a mild detergent will do it: rinse until the water runs clear, then dry it fully in open air — never with heat, never with a flame. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki V-Strom 650XT, 2017 to 2026, a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same element covers four machines; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
