Sprint Filter PM200S air filter⟲ 360° — drag me

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

Look at a cross-section of the two common performance filter media and the difference is structural. Cotton-gauze and foam panels build their filtration by stacking layers, so what happens at any given point depends on how those layers happen to sit there. The medium in the PM200S is a single sheet of woven polyester. It behaves the same across its whole area, which is a duller property than it sounds and the reason the RC 125's small airbox can be filled usefully.

Key Features

  • One woven layer rather than a stack, so the passage is even from corner to corner
  • Used dry: the weave does its work with no oil to hold particles
  • Roughly double the filtering area of other performance panels, gained by folding
  • Straight swap for the standard element — same box, same lid, same fuelling
  • Filtration at 80 microns for road and track
  • Cleanable and reusable for as long as the bike is on the road

One layer, one behaviour

A layered filter has thick spots and thin spots. Air takes the easy route, so the thin spots pass more than their share and filter less than their share, while the thick spots do the reverse. Nothing about that is catastrophic; it is simply uneven, and it shifts as the layers settle. A woven sheet has none of it. Every square centimetre presents the same structure, the threads start at a diameter of 22 microns, and the openings between them are what the 80-micron rating describes. Those two figures are regularly confused: the first is the thickness of the material, the second the size of what gets through.

Why an even sheet suits a small airbox

The RC 125 does not have a large box to work with. Area has to come from folding the medium, and folding only helps if the fabric holds its shape in the fold — a material that creases or relaxes gives back exactly the surface it was folded to gain. Polyester is stable enough to be pleated tightly and to stay that way through years of removal and refitting. It is worth being plain about the outcome: a learner-class machine is limited by regulation, and no filter changes that. What you get is a lower and steadier restriction, and a panel that survives the bike.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean face with the nozzle moving; the dust comes out the way it went in. A wash is needed only when air stops making a difference — warm water, a mild detergent, a rinse, and then patience while it dries in the air. Do not hurry that with heat of any kind, and never refit it damp. The Downloads tab holds the illustrated sheet, and the whole procedure ends without a drop of oil.

Fitment & Compatibility

Catalogued for the KTM RC 125, 2022 to 2026. A model-specific panel for the standard airbox; thirteen further KTM and Husqvarna machines run the same code, each shown with its build years in the Fitment tab.
