The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
There is one fact about this part worth knowing before anything else: the element Sprint Filter lists for the 937 cc Multistrada 950 is the one it also lists for the 1,285 cc Panigale 1299. A single panel therefore has to satisfy the hungriest engine in the group, and the 950 inherits it. That is a good position to be in. Where the superbike works its filter hard at full throttle, the touring twin asks for a fraction of the same capacity, and PM127S therefore spends its life comfortably inside its own limits.
Key Features
- Polyester weave, dry throughout, with no oil to be pulled into the tract
- Filtering area in the region of double that of other performance panels
- Rated at 80 microns of filtration with 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow
- Straight swap for the paper panel; box, ducting and mapping all unchanged
- Regenerated with compressed air, washed with water when the road has been bad
- Two-year warranty from the day of sale
Drawn around the biggest engine on the list
Filter capacity is not really about how much air an engine wants at peak. It is about how long the cloth can accumulate dust before the restriction it presents begins to matter, and that depends on the ratio between what is available and what is being asked for. On a 950 the ratio is generous, because the element was never sized for a 950 in the first place. The practical result is an interval measured in seasons rather than services, on a machine whose owners tend to cover real distances.
Headroom is an interval, not a power figure
None of this makes the engine stronger, and nobody should expect a panel to alter what an engine produces. What headroom buys is time: the point at which a loading filter starts costing something arrives much later, and when it does arrive a wash resets the clock instead of a purchase. A service schedule treats an air filter as a replacement item to be bought; this one turns that entry from a part number into a task.
Care and cleaning
Dust leaves the way it came in. Put compressed air against the clean face and work outward until nothing more lifts from the cloth. Two or three times over the life of the element that will not be enough, and then it is warm water, a mild detergent and a rinse until the water runs colourless, followed by drying in open air. Nothing heated — no radiator, no hot-air gun, no flame. The element goes back dry. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
