The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two model years is all the Monster 797 gets in this catalogue, 2019 and 2020, and then the air-cooled Monster stops for good. Part numbers usually shrink along with the models they belong to, which is the quiet problem with owning the last of a line. This one does not: CM61S also carries machines built as far back as 2006, so the code has already outlived several Ducatis and has twenty-three other bikes keeping it in production. For a 797 owner that is worth more than any figure on the box.
Key Features
- The cloth is polyester and stays dry from first fitting onwards — nothing to leave a residue downstream
- Roughly twice as much filtering surface as other performance filters carry
- Fibres from ø 22 microns across, woven to a controlled gap rather than matted from paper pulp
- Sits in the standard airbox exactly where the factory element sat — no cutting, no fuelling change
- Serviced with an air line and reused; built to last as long as the bike
- Two-year guarantee running from the purchase date
The last of the Desmodue
The 797 kept the air-cooled twin, the trellis frame and very little electronic mediation, and that is precisely why people buy them now rather than then. Bikes bought for what they are get kept, and keeping a bike changes the arithmetic on consumables. A panel filter is a small recurring purchase; an element you wash is a single one. Over a long ownership that difference outgrows the price of the part.
Where restriction shows on an 803
An air-cooled twin does its useful work in the middle of the rev range, so a filter that has loaded up is felt on the roll-on rather than at the top. Nothing warns you — no light, no code, no rough running. Be equally honest about the other direction: a new element does not hand a standard engine extra power. It holds the intake near where Ducati set it instead of letting it drift.
Care and cleaning
Take the CM61S out and drive compressed air through it from the inside face outwards. Once or twice in its life it will want a proper wash — tepid water, a small amount of gentle detergent, then rinsing until the water leaving it is clean. Let it dry naturally and completely; heat guns, radiators and flames all damage the weave. It goes back dry and unoiled. Sprint Filter's cleaning notes are attached under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Covers the Ducati Monster 797 of 2019 and 2020. Twenty-four Ducati machines share this element, from a 2006 SportClassic through to a model still being built — the Fitment tab names every one of them.
