DescriptionThe whole story▼
A front wheel change in the pits is where Melotti Racing's Corsa-line axle sliders earn their place on a Yamaha YZF-R1, built between 2015 and 2021, as much as any slide ever does. Developed on the racetrack specifically to speed up wheel changes in the garage, the PR.YA.315A gives the front axle a one-piece slider on each end that doubles as protection and as a faster way to get the wheel off and back on.
Key Features
- Front wheel axle sliders, Corsa line, for the Yamaha YZF-R1, 2015 to 2021
- Melotti part PR.YA.315A, available in black or natural
- Machined from Ergal, one piece per side
- One slider works as a nut-protector, replacing the original axle nut
- The other slider uses an all-in-one clamping system to grip and turn the axle itself
- Rear version of the same system also available
- Also listed for the Yamaha YZF-R6
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti machines both sliders of the PR.YA.315A in Ergal rather than the plastics used on many generic axle protectors, a choice made specifically for the extra abrasion resistance Ergal offers if the YZF-R1 goes down. On one side, the slider is built as a nut-protector, taking over from the original axle nut entirely rather than bolting over it, which Melotti introduced first in this form. On the other, an all-in-one clamping system lets a mechanic grip and turn the axle directly through the slider itself, instead of needing a separate tool to hold it still while the nut comes off.
Built for the Clock, Not Just the Crash
Melotti designed this Corsa line on the racetrack with one problem in mind: how much time a front wheel change costs in the box during a race weekend, when every minute on a stand is a minute not spent on track. Because one slider replaces the axle nut outright and the other lets the axle be turned directly through its own clamp, there is no separate protector to remove and refit every time the wheel comes off, which is the detail that actually saves time compared with a conventional slider bolted alongside the stock nut. The protection against a slide comes as part of the same design, not as a trade-off against it.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Melotti's own range, the PR.YA.315A covers the YZF-R1 from 2015 through 2021, the window this listing follows. A rear set exists under its own number, the PR.YA.315P, but that ships separately. The same front sliders are equally at home on a YZF-R6, where Melotti's fitment runs from 2017 to 2021. Pick whichever anodised shade, black or natural, suits the rest of the bike.
Road Approval
No ABE exists for the PR.YA.315A. It is supplied for racetrack and closed-circuit use, and race organisers set their own technical rules on wheel-change procedures at a meeting.
