DescriptionThe whole story▼
Twelve point one horsepower. That is the largest single power gain recorded anywhere in this catalogue, and it comes from replacing the header rather than the silencer — which is exactly the point of the part.
Key Features
- 12.1 PS more at 10,300 rpm, taking peak output from 132.1 to 141.8 PS
- 6.2 Nm more at 7,550 rpm, peak torque rising to 114.9 Nm
- 3.37 kg against the standard 7.92 kg: 4.6 kg and 57.4 per cent less
- Made from the finest stainless steel
- Covers three motorcycles: Ninja 1000SX, Ninja 1100SX and Z1100
- ECU remapping is mandatory
- No road approval — circuit use only
Why a Header Finds What a Slip-On Cannot
The Akrapovic slip-on for these bikes gains 0.6 PS. This header gains 12.1. The difference is not quality — it is which part of the exhaust each one touches.
A slip-on replaces the last section, after the gas has already passed through a standard header sized for emissions and a catalytic converter that restricts flow by design. A header replaces that restriction. On a 1,043 or 1,099 cc four the result is what the numbers show, and it is why this part costs what it does.
Three Motorcycles, One Header
Kawasaki uses the same engine architecture across the sport-touring Ninja 1000SX, its 1,099 cc successor the Ninja 1100SX, and the naked Z1100. The header route is shared, so one part covers all three — which is unusual for a component this deep in the engine bay.
The Remap Is Mandatory
Akrapovic states that the engine check light may appear after fitting and that remapping the ECU is mandatory. Removing the catalytic converter changes what the lambda sensors read, and the standard map cannot compensate.
Budget for the remap with the part. Without it the motorcycle will run with a warning light and will not deliver the measured figures.
What You Need Alongside It
This header is not a complete exhaust. It requires an Akrapovic slip-on to finish the system — for the Ninja 1000SX and 1100SX that is S-K10SO32-HRT in titanium or S-K10SO32-HRC in carbon, and for the Z1100 it is S-K11SO2-HRC.
What „Optional Header" Means
Akrapovic uses the word optional to say that the part is an add-on to a slip-on, not that it is a nice-to-have. Without a matching silencer there is nothing for the header to connect to; with one, the two together form a complete system.
The naming matters when ordering. An E- part number is always a header and never a full exhaust, and it will never arrive with a silencer in the box.
Fitment and Compatibility
E-K10R9 covers the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX from 2020, the Ninja 1100SX from 2025 and the Z1100 from 2025, through model year 2026. Installation is quoted at 90 minutes.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
