There is a check that works on a woven air filter and not on this one. Hold a used polyester weave up to the light and the loading shows: the bright pinholes close, unevenly, and you can see where. A P14 gives nothing back. It is a non-woven mat that collects through its thickness rather than on its face, so it darkens early, turns opaque, and looks much the same a quarter loaded as three quarters loaded. On a Speed 400 that changes how the part is looked after, not how well it works.
Key Features
- Dry specialist non-woven rated at 14 µm, the finest of the three media listed for this airbox
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the woven road element in the same box
- Collects through the depth of the material, so the load is stored rather than stacked on one face
- Around twice the filtering area of other performance elements, pleated to the standard housing
- Takes the paper panel's place with nothing cut, nothing rerouted and no remap
- Cleaned with compressed air and reused; two years of warranty from the date of purchase
A panel you cannot read by eye
Nor is there a number to fall back on. Sprint Filter publishes an aperture and a flow rate for the P14 and no retention percentage, so nothing here can be set beside the 93.13 per cent quoted for the road weave. Between an element that hides its condition and a specification with a gap in it, the answer is a routine rather than an inspection: clean CM267P14 on the schedule the machine's conditions suggest, not when it starts to look dirty — it will look dirty long before it is. The upside of a depth-loading mat is the very thing that makes it unreadable: it keeps working after its face has taken on colour.
What the fine end costs
Air, and plenty of it. The same Triumph housing takes a woven panel rated at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec; this mat is rated at 1,800 across the same unit of surface, well under half. Finer always retains more and passes less; that is a trade, not a ranking, and the road element is not the poorer part, only the one built for cleaner air. Neither of them is a power part either. No drop-in element makes a standard Speed 400 noticeably quicker. What is on offer is an intake restriction that starts low and is returned to low at each service, on a part that is cleaned rather than bought again.
Care and cleaning
Direction matters more here than anywhere. Compressed air goes onto the clean face and blows outward, because a mat that holds its load in depth will bury it if the air goes the other way. When air stops being enough, lukewarm water and a mild detergent flush it; rinse until the water leaves clear. Drying is room-temperature moving air and nothing else — a radiator, a hot air gun or a flame ruins it — and CM267P14 is refitted dry, with nothing sprayed onto it. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
