DescriptionThe whole story▼
Long, steep descents on loose ground show whether a rider's brake hand is gentle or clumsy, and a dual-purpose bike like the Kawasaki KLX 250 makes the difference easy to feel. Squeeze the front brake hard at the top and the fork dives, the steering grows heavy and the front tyre ploughs; build the pressure gradually and the bike walks down under control. Accossato's contribution is the B8145, a folding front brake lever for the KLX 250 of 2009 to 2017, milled in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a short three-finger blade on a joint that lets it fold forward.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KLX 250, 2009 to 2017
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade for three fingers
- Blade may fold forward on the anti-break joint
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black or green, dark base
- No German ABE on record; not approved for public roads, intended for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato, today based in Villastellone near Turin, produces the B8145 in Italy on CNC machines, starting from solid Ergal 7075. That aluminium alloy carries a high strength rating, and the company chose it to make a lever that is strong, light and reliable. What arrives is two pieces working as one: a dark base, which fits onto the pivot of the original master cylinder and contains the joint, and a black or green blade that can swing forward on it. The brake blade is the shorter of Accossato's two off-road designs, drawn for three fingers.
When the Fork Dives
Braking downhill loads the front of any bike, and on a trail bike with long-travel suspension the fork compresses a long way. As it does, the steering angle steepens and the front tyre carries more of the weight, which helps up to a point and then suddenly becomes too much. What works on a KLX 250 is to stand, knees bent and weight back over the footpegs, set a slow speed before the steepest part, and then use the front brake in a light, steady squeeze while the rear brake does its share. Releasing and reapplying in small doses keeps the fork from sitting at the bottom of its travel.
When a descent does get away from the rider, it often ends with the KLX 250 lying across the slope, the front wheel having washed out on loose stones. A brake lever pointing downhill takes a hard knock at the moment of impact and can snap cleanly at the tip. The B8145's joint gives the blade the possibility of folding forward instead, which improves the chances of walking the bike down the rest of the slope with a working front brake. It does not replace a careful line, and the lever deserves a proper look once you reach the bottom.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8145 appears in Accossato's list for the Kawasaki KLX 250 from 2009 to 2017 and goes onto the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever. The C7127 folding clutch lever is listed for the same nine model years, in the same two colours, black and green.
Road Approval
For the B8145 there is no German ABE on record. The KLX 250 is a road-registered dual-purpose bike, so bear in mind that with this lever fitted it is not approved for public roads; the lever is sold for trail riding away from public roads and for competition.
