White is the more rational of the two Core finishes for a helmet that will spend its life in traffic. City riding is where a motorcyclist is least expected and most often looked through, and a pale shell at head height is what a driver resolves first.

The SHARP entry we cannot attribute to this helmet

🔵 Read any five-star claim for this helmet carefully. SHARP does list a „Nexx Y100" at 5 stars (August 2025, ECE 22.06, 1.6 kg) — but its size range is given as XS–XL, where this helmet is sold XS–XXL.

That discrepancy is enough that we will not present the rating as this helmet's. It may be; it may be a variant. We would rather say so than take the benefit of the doubt.

About the white finish

The conspicuity argument is strongest exactly where this helmet is meant to be used. A driver pulling out of a side road has a fraction of a second, in cluttered light, against a busy background — and a white helmet sits above the headlight where the eye actually scans. There is a thermal benefit alongside it: a pale shell reflects solar energy that a dark one converts directly into interior heat, which matters in stationary traffic where no ventilation system does much. 🔵 The cost is dirt. City road film and insect strike show on white sooner than on anything else, and it will need washing more often than the matt black.

Polyfusion, two shells and a double-EPS liner

🔵 What thermoplastic means in practice: the shell is injection-moulded rather than laid up by hand, which makes it cheaper to produce and heavier than a composite of equal strength — and it is why this helmet costs 144 € and weighs 1575 g.

It also means very consistent shell-to-shell quality, because the process is machine-controlled. Two outer shell sizes cover XS to XXL, over a double-EPS liner.

A wide eye port, X-SWIFT and two visors

🔵 Optical class 1 is the higher of the two grades under ECE 22-06 and means the visor introduces essentially no distortion. On an aperture this wide it matters more than usual, because you look through the outer edges of it far more than on a narrow one.

The Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens supplied covers the full width of that aperture rather than leaving a clear border top and bottom — which is where fogging actually starts at low speed.

The sun visor and its glove-friendly button

Sunset on a westbound commute is the condition that decides whether a sun visor was worth having, and it is precisely the condition a fixed tinted visor handles worst — because half an hour later it is dark and you cannot see through it.

🔵 A drop-down shield retracts in a second. This one filters 99 % of ultraviolet and works from a button you can find in gloves without looking.

A top intake, a chin vent and an air chamber

What ventilation actually manages is humidity as much as heat: sweat that cannot evaporate stays in the liner, and a saturated liner is what makes a ride uncomfortable long before temperature does.

🔵 The X-Mart Dry interior works on that alongside the vents. In stationary traffic no helmet ventilates well — airflow needs airflow — and a pale shell does more for you there than any vent setting.

Interior, neck roll and retention

🔵 A new helmet should feel firm but never painful. The liner beds in over the first few hours and again across the first season, so a helmet that is perfect in the shop will usually be loose by the summer's end. Start tighter than comfortable.

Two outer shell sizes cover XS to XXL; measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows. A helmet you can rotate by hand is too big, whatever the tape says.

X-COM3 — developed with SENA

🔵 The SENA involvement is worth knowing, because intercom hardware is where own-brand systems most often disappoint. X-COM3 is Nexx's shell integration around SENA's electronics rather than an in-house attempt at both.

Bluetooth 5.2 in both versions; the PRO adds 2.0 Mesh and Harman Kardon audio. Both are separate purchases.

1575 grams, and the rest of the honest list

🔵 What you give up at 144 € is weight and shell material; what you keep is everything else. Two visors, a Pinlock lens, an internal sun visor, a nose guard, a wind deflector, camera mounts, SENA-developed comms provision and four market approvals.

Compare that against other helmets at this price, most of which supply one visor and no anti-fog lens.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

🔵 Against the Y.100R the differences are cosmetic and aerodynamic rather than structural: the same Polyfusion shell, the same two shell sizes, the same X-SWIFT visor system, the same internal sun visor and the same approvals.

What the R adds is the wind-tunnel-shaped sport profile with a double-blade spoiler, and a choice of graphics. If you want the plain version, this is it, and it costs less.

When something wears out

🔵 A word on visor care, because it prevents most of the visor sales we make. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against headlights at night.

Wet it first, every time. A second visor comes with this helmet, so a scratched one is an inconvenience rather than a problem.
