DescriptionThe whole story

Zero Pro is the X.LIFECOUNTRY reduced to its shell: exposed 3K weave, no graphic over it. It sits at the top of the range because a finish with nothing on it has to be flawless underneath.

Versatile in two directions — and what the peak costs

Adventure riding on a big bike means hours of tarmac between the interesting parts, and a flip-up is the format that makes those hours bearable — open at the lights, closed for the miles, and never taking the helmet off at a fuel stop.

🔵 The X.LIFECOUNTRY adds a removable peak to that. It is P/J homologated, so riding open is legal as well as possible.

A removable peak is the single feature that separates this helmet from Nexx's touring flip-up, and everything else follows from it — the extra weight, the extra noise, and the ability to ride a trail behind another bike without a face full of stones.

🔵 It comes off in about a minute when none of that applies.

About the Zero Pro Carbon finish

A painted shell can hide small cosmetic imperfections in the layup; an exposed-weave one cannot, which is why bare-carbon versions of any helmet cost more than painted ones built on the identical shell. What you pay for is the quality of the surface rather than extra material. The consequence is repairability, and on an adventure helmet it matters more than usual: a deep scratch into exposed weave is permanent, and this helmet is designed to meet stones. 🔵 It is also the least conspicuous version here — carbon reads as very dark grey in every light condition that matters.

P/J homologation and the Super Locker chin bar

Four market homologations — ECE 22-06 P/J, DOT FMVSS 218, CCC GB811:2022 and NBR7471:2015 — is useful on a helmet bought to cross borders, which is what adventure helmets are for.

🔵 The chin bar opens on an easy-access button with a safety mechanism, and the Super Locker pivot holds it when raised.

The X-PRO Carbon 3K shell

Carbon costs more for two reasons and only one is material: the layup is more labour-intensive, and on exposed-weave finishes the surface has to be good enough to show. That is why the Zero Pro sits above the painted Terra versions built on the identical shell.

This is X-PRO Carbon 3K at 1650 g claimed stripped, in two outer sizes.

2042 grams — the number to weigh

🔵 Removing the peak reduces the perceived load more than the 150 g the carbon shell saves, because a peak acts on a lever arm in clean air rather than simply adding mass.

That is worth knowing on a helmet measured at 2042 g kitted, with weight scored 1 out of 5.

X-Sensus Vision, X-SWIFT and two visors

The aperture is where a flip-up usually compromises, because the chin bar has to clear it when raised. Nexx went the other way: 15 % larger than the standard requires, which is a deliberate priority rather than an accident of packaging.

🔵 The visor changes tool-free and carries a fitted Pinlock 70 MaxVision lens.

Two closable intakes and the Mid Airflow Chamber

The complete ventilation specification: two closable intakes, two exhausts and the patent-pending Mid Airflow Chamber circulating air around the head between the shell and the liner.

🔵 Independent measurement scored it 4 out of 5 — a good result, and the strongest mark this helmet received.

101 decibels — and what the peak costs

🔵 One thing worth checking on any helmet at this price: whether air whistles with the visor fully closed. On the X.LIFECOUNTRY the Silent Travel Seal is a double rubber seal, so a whistle usually means a dirty or aged seal rather than a design fault.

Measured overall noise: 101 dB at 130 km/h, scored 3/5.

Morpho-Fit interior and F.R.S.

A 3D-shaped seamless liner is the most expensive way to build a helmet interior and the most comfortable over distance. Nexx calls it Morpho-Fit, and it is what keeps a two-kilogram helmet tolerable at hour five.

🔵 Comfort still scored only 3/5 independently — the weight is doing the damage rather than the padding.

Where it sits in Nexx's range

🔵 A fair summary: this is the most versatile helmet Nexx makes and the heaviest. Every feature it has beyond a fixed full-face — the hinge, the peak, the seals — adds grams, and independent testing scored the result 1 out of 5 for weight.

If you need the versatility, nothing else in the range covers the same ground.

Comms, cameras and spare parts

The serviceable parts list here is long: both visors, Pinlock 70 lenses, the peak and its extensor, cheek pads, the Morpho-Fit liner, neck roll, chin-strap covers, wind deflector, breath guard and the internal sun visor.

🔵 Between them they cover everything except the shell, the EPS and the chin-bar mechanism.

“A flip front with a peak and dual homologation, so it is legal open or closed. Bennetts are blunt about the weakness: the ventilation is disappointing for an adventure helmet, and that is the axis this category weighs most heavily after the off-road kit.”
