DescriptionThe whole story

C3 pairs fluorescent yellow with light blue and is by a wide margin the most visible helmet in the Stinger 2 range. On a commuting helmet ridden through a European winter, that is a specification rather than a preference.

What this helmet is — honestly

🔵 Worth checking on any helmet at this price: which ECE revision it holds. A good number of budget full-face helmets are still sold against 22.05, which uses fewer impact points, lower test speeds and no rotational assessment.

The Stinger 2 is certified to ECE 22.06. That is the single most important thing about it.

About the Rocket C3 graphic

Fluorescent pigments convert ultraviolet into visible light, which is why they appear to glow rather than merely to be bright — and why they keep working in exactly the conditions where ordinary colours fail: overcast mornings, dusk, rain and the flat grey of a winter commute. Pairing it with light blue rather than black keeps the overall value high, so the helmet works in daylight too. 🔵 Fluorescent fades faster than any other pigment type under sustained sun, and no care regime stops it — only storage out of direct light slows it down.

HIRP and ECE 22.06

Seven sizes from XXS to XXL is a wider range than most helmets in this class offer, and the XXS in particular is genuinely hard to find at any price.

🔵 The construction is HIRP thermoplastic at approximately 1.6 kg, homologated to ECE 22.06.

The sun visor this helmet does not have

🔵 The honest framing: a drop-down sun visor is the single most useful convenience feature on a road helmet, and this one does not have it. That is a real limitation rather than a detail.

MT-QVSS at least makes changing to the optional smoked visor quick and tool-free, which is more than most helmets at this price manage.

MT-V-28B, MT-QVSS and the Pinlock you buy separately

Look after the visor and it will outlast the padding. Never wipe a dry visor — road dust is abrasive and dragging it across the surface leaves permanent fine scratches that flare against oncoming headlights at night.

🔵 Wet it first, every time. MT-QVSS makes replacing a scratched visor straightforward when the time comes.

The MT-MDTC closure

🔵 A loose strap is the most common way a helmet fails to do its job, and it has nothing to do with the shell. If the helmet can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened, it is either too big or too loose.

The MT-MDTC closure adjusts finely enough to fix the second problem. It cannot fix the first.

Interior, fit and washing

🔵 The parts that wear on any helmet are the ones you touch: the lining compresses, the cheek pads absorb sweat, the chin-strap area frays. On a helmet at this price, being able to renew them is what decides whether it lasts three years or one.

The Stinger 2's interior is fully removable and machine-washable throughout.

Universal UCS intercom slot

Speaker pockets are moulded into the lining rather than cut into the EPS, which means they do not compromise the impact liner — a distinction worth knowing, because some cheap helmets achieve „intercom-ready" by hollowing out polystyrene.

🔵 The UCS slot itself takes standard universal units.

Where it sits in MT's range

🔵 If an independent safety rating is part of your decision, note that only MT's Track SV currently carries one — four SHARP stars. The Stinger 2 has never been listed, and nor has most of the range.

Every MT full-face in the current range holds ECE 22.06.

When something wears out

Genuine parts matter more on a helmet than on most things, because the visor and the retention system are part of what was certified to ECE 22.06. A pattern visor with different optical properties is not the helmet that was approved.

Everything we stock for the Stinger 2 is MT's own.

Specification

  • Model — MT-Helmets Stinger 2
  • Part number — 1334492C3202
  • Colour — Rocket C3 — Matt, neon yellow and light blue
  • HomologationECE 22.06 — MT states the helmet exceeds the standard
  • 🔴 Safety rating — none — SHARP has never listed the Stinger 2; no ADAC or Snell result, and no independent road test has been published
  • Helmet type — Full-face, entry-level / commuting
  • ShellHIRP (High Impact Resistant Polymer)
  • Weight — approx. 1.6 kg — heavier than MT's dearer models and than any composite shell
  • SizesXXS to XXL (seven sizes)
  • VisorMT-V-28B polycarbonate, sealed against the shell, with MT-QVSS tool-free quick swap
  • 🔴 Anti-fog — Pinlock® DKS435 ready — insert sold separately, not supplied
  • 🔴 Sun visornone. An optional smoked visor is available; a drop-down shield is not fitted to this model
  • RetentionMT-MDTC — Micrometric Double Teeth Closure
  • Interior — hypoallergenic, fully removable and machine-washable
  • Communicationuniversal UCS intercom slot with dedicated speaker pockets — no system supplied
  • Impact liner — expanded polystyrene — crushes once and does not recover; replace the helmet after any real impact
  • Serviceability — visor, Pinlock lens, cheek pads and complete lining all available separately
  • Made for — commuting, city and short-distance riding — not a long-distance touring helmet
  • Manufacturer — MT-Helmets (MT Helmets, Spain)
  • Sizing note — measure around the widest part of your head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and try the size the chart gives you. A helmet that can be rolled forward off your head with the strap fastened is too large
  • Care — the lining is machine-washable; never wipe the visor dry, as road dust scratches it permanently
  • Replacement guidance — after around five years of use regardless of condition, and immediately after any impact
  • 🔴 Ventilation — MT publishes no detailed ventilation specification for the Stinger 2, and no independent test has measured it. We are not going to describe a system we cannot document — treat airflow as the open question on this helmet
  • Head protection — full-face — unlike a jet, the chin and jaw are covered, which is the single largest protective difference between helmet types
  • Worth budgeting — a Pinlock DKS435 insert for winter and an optional smoked visor for summer — neither is supplied, and together they add roughly 50–60 € to the helmet
  • Compared with the Thunder 4 R SV — that helmet adds an integrated sun visor, a supplied Pinlock lens and roughly 100 g less weight, for nearly twice the price. Both are HIRP shells homologated to ECE 22.06 — the difference is equipment, not protection standard

“Four intakes and two exhausts that testers found kept up in 29-degree heat, plus a tool-free visor change and three homologations including DOT and INMETRO. The weight and the lack of an independent crash test are what hold it back.”
