Wide bars, a tall stance and folding mirrors point the Rivale 800 at roads that nobody sweeps. Farm tracks, unsurfaced car parks, the gravel on the inside of a mountain hairpin — this is the machine on the fitment list most likely to breathe something other than clean air. If that is the reason you are shopping for a filter, the answer lies further down Sprint Filter's list rather than further up it, and this page is the wrong place to end up.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester, racing specification, with nothing oiled at any point
- 85 µm between the threads; 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated throughput
- About double the filtering surface of other performance filters
- A direct exchange for the factory panel, with no airbox modification and no remapping
- Washable and reusable, specified to last as long as the motorcycle
- Two years of warranty from the date of purchase
A row of destinations, not a ladder
Sprint Filter's media do not rank. Each sets an aperture, and the aperture decides two things at once: what is stopped and how easily air moves. T12 closes to 7 microns and passes 560 litres per square metre per second, for sand and extreme conditions. P14 sits at 14 microns and 1,800, made for dust and long distance. The standard P08 opens to 80 microns and 5,050 for road and track. This racing cloth opens furthest, to 85 microns, and passes 15,000. None of those is the best one. They answer different questions, and the question loose ground puts — how little of the fine stuff reaches the engine — is answered at the bottom of that list.
The one thing you cannot change mid-ride
A Rivale changes surface several times in an afternoon, and the medium in the airbox does not change with it. Tyre pressures can be dropped, a route can be shortened, but the cloth is chosen before the ignition is switched on and it filters whatever the day turns out to contain. That is why the specification is made from the dirtiest part of the riding rather than the average of it. If a Rivale sees mostly clean tarmac and the occasional track session, CM135S F1-85 has a case; if the dirt roads are the point of owning it, buy filtration rather than flow, and put the difference in price into a second element instead.
Care and cleaning
Dust comes out with a compressor. Present the clean face to the air line and blow outward so the load leaves by its entry route; on the racing weave that clears more of it than you might expect. What survives comes off in tepid water with a mild detergent, rinsed patiently until the water is free of colour. Never accelerate the drying with heat, whatever the temptation after a dusty weekend — a heat gun, a radiator or a flame will damage the polyester, and only a fully dry element goes back into the box. Refit it with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the MV Agusta Rivale 800 built between 2014 and 2026, in the standard airbox. Eleven machines take the same element across MV's triple range, from the Brutale 675 and the F3 675 to the current Superveloce and Turismo Veloce.
