Suzuki sold this motorcycle as the Gladius for seven model years, then retired the name and went back to calling it an SV650. The styling changed, the badge changed, the advertising changed. The airbox did not — the SFV650 Gladius of 2009 to 2015 and the SV 650 built from 2016 take the same Sprint Filter element. For an owner ordering parts, that is the most useful thing on this page.

What actually identifies the part

Model names are marketing decisions and airboxes are engineering ones, and the two change on completely different schedules. That matters more than usual here, because searches for a retired name thin out over the years while the housing underneath stays exactly where it was. The SKU is the reliable handle: PM117S and your model year will find the right element long after the word Gladius has stopped being a useful search term.

Not the oldest thing in the airbox

On a machine built between 2009 and 2015, a filter fitted today is newer than everything around it, and a clean element makes the rest easier to read. An oily film on the clean side is the crankcase breather talking, not the filter. Dust concentrated at one edge says something about how the box is sealing. None of that is visible on a paper element that goes straight into the bin, and none of it changes the honest part: no drop-in filter makes a standard Gladius noticeably quicker. The gain is a lower intake restriction that stays lower between services.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean side, directed outwards, is the whole routine for the PM117S. Water and a mild detergent are for the occasions when the element is oily rather than dusty; rinse it and let it dry in open air.
