The smallest clamp Spark lists. Nominal 43.5 millimetres, and Spark quotes it for pipes between forty-two and forty-four.
Key Features
- Exhaust clamp, nominal Ø 43.5 mm.
- Suitable for pipes from 42 to 44 mm, per Spark.
- Spark part number G95LA003, made in Mantova, Italy.
Reading the Size
The figure on a clamp is the diameter it closes to, not the pipe it fits. That is why a 43.5 covers a range: it has to be able to draw down onto the smaller pipe and still open enough to go over the larger one.
Ordering by pipe diameter rather than by clamp number is the reliable way round.
Where It Goes
Around a slip joint, most often at the silencer inlet. On Spark's own systems that joint is usually held by springs instead — a clamp is the alternative when there is no room for a spring or when the joint has to be gas-tight rather than merely retained.
Clamp or Spring
A clamp seals better and fights thermal movement; a spring allows the movement and does not seal. On a run with a clamp at both ends, something has to give — usually a weld.
One clamped joint and one sprung joint per run is a sound arrangement.
Ordering
One per joint. Spark also lists 47.5, 53.5 and 63.5 millimetre clamps.
