  • Measured spring rate 7.5 N/mm
  • Free length 270 mm
  • Supplied as a pair
  • Inner diameter 23.5 mm
  • 154 mm of usable stroke

Manufacture and Tolerance

Öhlins publishes recommended sag figures for its springs, so the setup has a reference rather than a feel. Every Öhlins dealer can re-valve the unit, because the shim stack is a documented, serviceable assembly. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

The Numbers That Matter

The 23.5 mm bore and 270 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 7.5 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.

Where This Rate Belongs

The trade is fork dive under braking — noticeable, but rarely the limiting factor on the road. Lighter riders usually end up a step or two below the factory rate once sag is measured properly. Comfort and grip come from the spring moving early; this is the end of the range where that happens. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.

Applications

Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. This spring is chosen by its dimensions rather than by motorcycle model: check inner diameter, free length and rate against the fork it is going into.

Installation

Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own. Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical.

Road Approval

Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
