MT-Helmets Track SV Nomad B25 Adventure Helmet – Matt Anthracite / Red

Nomad B25 is the quiet one: a matt dark grey shell shading to black at the chin, with a single red stripe running the length of the lower edge and into the tail. No graphics, no lettering beyond the model name, and a peak on top.

About the Nomad B25 finish

The shell is matt anthracite in the upper panel, dropping to a deeper black-grey at the chin bar and peak. A red line runs from behind the visor mechanism along the base of the shell and lifts into the rear, and NOMAD is set in tonal grey on the flank.

A dark adventure helmet is the less obvious choice and it has one clear practical advantage: it does not show the film of dust and oil that a helmet picks up from a gravel road, and it never looks half-cleaned. What it gives up is heat — a dark shell in full sun runs warmer, which is worth knowing if your riding is summer touring in the south.

Why an adventure shell is shaped the way it is

Look at this helmet next to a sport full-face and three things differ: a longer chin bar, a larger eye port, and a peak.

All three come from riding standing up. Off-road you stand on the pegs and look down at the ground a few metres ahead, which puts your head at an angle a road helmet was never shaped for — a road helmet's eye port ends up pointing at the sky. A taller port and a longer chin bar keep the view where you are actually looking, and that is the real reason an adventure helmet looks like this, rather than styling.

The peak, honestly

A peak is an aerodynamic liability at speed. It generates lift, and turning your head into an airflow gives it a lever to pull on your neck. Above roughly 120 km/h that is tiring; on a naked bike it is tiring sooner.

In exchange it shades low sun, keeps stones and mud thrown by the bike in front off your visor, and gives the helmet its stance. If your riding is 80 % motorway, buy a road helmet. If it is mixed, this is the correct compromise and every manufacturer makes the same one.

The rating, and what four stars is worth

This helmet has four SHARP stars out of five — the UK Department for Transport's independent rating, and the only such result anywhere in MT's range.

The useful way to read it is as a distribution. SHARP has rated well over a thousand helmets; the median sits at three stars, and five stars is rare and clusters in the expensive end of the market. A four-star result on a helmet at this price is genuinely unusual, and it is the single strongest objective fact we can tell you about anything MT makes.

What it does not say: SHARP measures how much energy the shell and liner absorb in a straight-on impact. It is silent on rotational loading, on how quiet the helmet is, on whether it fits your head, and on how it will be in five years. Treat four stars as one very good data point rather than a verdict.

Where this helmet fits in a garage

The honest question with an adventure helmet is whether you need one at all, and the answer turns on a single number: how much of your riding leaves tarmac.

Below about a tenth, a road helmet is quieter, lighter at speed and cheaper. Above it, the peak, the goggle-ready port and the taller eye port start earning their keep every ride, and the compromise on the motorway leg stops being a cost and becomes the price of the tool. What does not work is buying an adventure helmet for the look and riding it exclusively on the autobahn — you get the drag and none of the benefit.

ECE 22.06 · no DOT

The current European standard, mandatory since January 2024: 18 impact points against the 22.05's five, several impact speeds, an oblique strike against a rough anvil measuring rotational loading, and a Brain Injury Criterion ceiling.

MT publishes no DOT marking for the Track SV. We state that rather than assume it.

Sun visor and screen

A retractable MT-ESP sun visor with extended coverage, and the HS-12 screen, which comes off without tools so the helmet can be run with goggles.

Removing the screen also drops a surprising amount of weight from the front of the helmet — noticeable when you are standing on the pegs on a technical section, which is exactly when goggles make sense anyway.

ERS emergency release

Red tabs at the cheek pads let a first responder withdraw them sideways, so the helmet lifts off a casualty without the head being pulled or rotated.

Not every helmet in this price class has this, and it matters most in exactly the places an adventure helmet gets used — away from ambulances, found by people who are not paramedics.

Anti-fog and the liner

The HS-12 is prepared for Pinlock DKS 623 and FogOff. No insert is supplied. The liner is removable, washable and made from an antibacterial quick-drying fabric.

Weight

MT publishes 1,500 g for the Track SV, which is light for a helmet with a peak and a drop-down shade.

Weight matters more on an adventure helmet than on a road one, and not because of the number: standing on the pegs your neck holds the helmet without the support a seated posture gives, and a peak puts what mass there is further from your neck's pivot. A hundred grams is felt differently here than it is on a motorway.
