The Largest Weight Saving Here
Nine point six kilograms is more than any other single change in this catalogue delivers. On a 221 kg Z1000 that is over four per cent of the motorcycle, and it comes out of a twin-outlet collector assembly that Kawasaki built to meet Euro 4 in one piece.
For context: a set of forged wheels on this bike would save perhaps three kilograms for several times the money.
Nearly Eleven Horsepower
129 PS standard, 139.6 with the system fitted. That is an eight per cent gain, which on a litre roadster is at the upper end of what any exhaust achieves — and it follows from how restrictive the standard system was.
The torque figure matters as much: 5.3 Nm more at 8,600 rpm, in the part of the range a Z1000 is ridden.
Two Very Different Motorcycles
The Z1000 is an aggressive naked with no wind protection; the Z1000SX, sold as the Ninja 1000 in some markets, is a faired sports tourer with luggage mounts. They share this system across 2014 to 2020.
On an SX used for touring, the missing approval weighs more heavily than on a Z1000 taken to trackdays. Worth deciding before ordering.
Carbon, Not Titanium
Akrapovic builds this Racing Line with a carbon muffler sleeve. Alongside it the SM-K10SO2T slip-on offers the titanium route for the same machine, replacing only the silencer.
The complete system saves nearly ten kilograms; the slip-on saves six and a half. The difference is the collector, and it is where most of the standard system's weight actually lives.
Two Hours
120 minutes for a complete system on a faired Z1000SX, rather less on a naked Z1000. The four header pipes come off the cylinder head individually, and on the SX the fairing lowers go first.
An Insert Comes With It
A removable noise insert ships with the system. Fitted, it makes the exhaust considerably quieter — useful at a circuit with a static sound check. Removed, it is at its loudest. Neither state carries a road approval.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
