DescriptionThe whole story▼

Put the parts that meet the ground in a row and the lever is the cheapest of them by a wide margin. A handlebar costs more, a perch and master cylinder assembly considerably more, and a radiator or a set of plastics more again. On an FE 450 the clutch lever is the part that is meant to give way first, and treating it as expendable rather than repairable is the sensible attitude. Accossato lists the AGS14 for the FE 450 from 2014 to 2016, a silver clutch lever in the original shape.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever in the original shape for the Husqvarna FE 450
  • Accossato lists 2014 to 2016
  • Silver
  • Left-hand control, hydraulic clutch
  • An original spare parts type, sold as an economical replacement
  • Accossato reports better resistance after damage, thanks to its production method
  • One lever in the pack
  • No approval documents on file; racing and competition

Construction and Material Quality

An original spare parts type, in Accossato's catalogue, is a part with no ambition beyond fitting. The AGS14 takes the shape Husqvarna used on the FE 450, goes on in place of the broken lever and leaves the left-hand side of the bike as it was. Accossato developed the range so that such repairs stay cheap and states that the way these levers are produced leaves them more resistant after damage or a fall. The colour given here is silver, and no material, weight or measurement is published by the manufacturer.

The Cheapest Part in the Chain

There is a logic to how an off-road bike absorbs a crash, and it runs from the outside in. The lever takes the first contact and bends or breaks. Behind it the perch turns on the bar if it has been left able to. Behind that sits the handlebar, then the clamps, then the top of the forks. Each step costs more than the one before, which is why the cheap part at the front is allowed to fail: it is doing its job. The mistake is to interfere with that order. A lever straightened after a bend is no longer reliably the weakest link, a perch clamped down hard passes the load straight to the bar, and a handguard mounted so rigidly that it cannot move can turn a bent lever into a bent bar. Keep the order intact, replace the lever when it is damaged, and accept the cost of a control now and then as part of riding an FE 450 off-road. Fit the new one with a clean, greased pivot and the free play at rest that the handbook describes.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato covers the FE 450 with the AGS14 from 2014 to 2016 and with the AGS17 from 2018 to 2023, leaving 2017 without an original-type clutch lever. The AGS14 appears in our catalogue under a long list of related machines, among them the FC 250, the FS 450 and the KTM 125SX. The brake side of the FE 450 runs through the AGD316, the AGD14 and the AGD319 depending on the season. For a tuning part, Accossato lists the CNC clutch levers C7283 and C7284 for this bike.

Road Approval

Neither a German ABE nor a test mark is available for the AGS14, because no approval papers were issued to us with it, and we list the lever for competition use.
